Okay, hopefully I'm not breaking any rules, but I'm wondering how much interest there would be in us working together for our own special 1911's? I've got a good bit of solid works experience, and I know there's all kinds of talented people on here. I'm thinking ARFCOM1911 could be the "gun name" for this project. So maybe we could throw together our talent and get the ball rolling on this. I know group buys and that have special rules and that, but I think this would fall outside of it. We could just whip up the (IGES, SLDPRT, or other format) files and then machine the stuff ourselves, or if it "goes viral" on the site, we could do like build/machine parties to complete them for those, who don't have access to mills and that.

This would obviously take time, and I have some commitments in life (work), but I think all the effort would be worth it, and we have all kinds of wonderful people on here.

There would be three main parts to this:

  1. Planning: We'd have to come up with what features we want. Would we just be doing a custom frame? Would it be just custom grips? Would it be all out custom? What would we be making it out of?

  2. Designing: This would be all the cad nonsense.

  3. Building: Would we be helping each other out with all the CAM nonsense? Building/machining parties? Or would we be doing it all alone?

Here are my thoughts on features/specs:

  • BFL motifs

  • Railed frame

  • Standard sized frame (not like an EMP or anything like that)

  • "Tacticool" aesthetics

  • Five inch barrel

  • ARFCOM1911 engraved on the slide and/or frame.

What do you guys think? Is there any interest in this? What features/specs should it have?

If this is against the COC/rules, my apologies, feel free to lock/delete this thread, if that is the case.

ETA: I think I've got SLDPRT files of a mil-spec A1 frame and slide already.

Primary requirement for me to buy it. 100% made in Texas.

Saving up for an all made in Texas STI right now, but I'd consider buying an arfcom 1911 if it  was all forged/machined barstock and made in TX.

Were you aware that there has already been an Arfcom 1911?

Just curious...

That's cool.
If site staff could dig a picture up, that would be even better.

10Mm. Have the plug engraved with the bfl. Bfl grip medallions, maybe machine slide to bring to mind lines of ar sight tower? I could sketch something up...

Daniel, that sounds good. I'm not sure what you mean by having the profile of the slide similar to an ar sight tower though.

Larry Davidson could easily make the grips w/the BFL inset, or raised.

Forward milling on slide flowing into lines of front sight in a right triangle type design. I can see it in my head.
