anyone have an idea what a like new smith & wesson 657 41 magnum with 6" inch barrel goes for ? its stainless steel.. is $700 a fair deal ?

At that price point, I would personally go look for a blued steel or nickel Model 57 pre-lock in 4" or 6". It will be much more of a "collectors" item in the future and hold value better. But if there is an overriding need for stainless or need to buy quickly, getting one home for $700 is not a bad deal.

The 58 is also a consideration if adjustable sights are not mandatory. There are some who just love this variant:

Good luck finding your gun. You reload, correct? .41 magnum is really a reloaders round - ammo availability is very sketchy, even without the local crush.
