I had a G22 I bought around 1992, and I bought a G23 during the ban (late 1990's I think).  The G22 hand no finger grooves or rail.  (1st generation?)  The G23 had both.  (2nd gen.?)  What am I missing?

second generation, no rail, front and back texturing

third generation, rail, texturing, finger grooves, thumb grooves, loaded chamber indicator, etc etc etc.

Thanks for the fast reply, Ares.  Okay, so I had a 2nd and a 3rd.  Are the 1st gens rare and expensive?  I don't think I've ever seen one.

Depends on what you find. G17 pencil barrel you might pay a little more for then just a regular 1st gen G17. Same with the first G19 that were nothing more then a chopped G17 receiver but rare. A 1st gen G17L you will pay more for and a G17L ported can bring an even higher price. And then if you find what was called a G17"S" then you found something of interest to a collector. Now if by some snowballs chance in H*ll you find one of the first 10mm Glock produced you found something worth holding on too.....

Receivers:

1st gen G17

Pencil barrel:

1st gen G17L ported:

I own two 1st generation 17 and 17L. I had to change to 3rd generation when I cam eto the USA because of the lack of serial number on the grip.

I like the new look better

I have a Glock 19 that is a little different- the grip has no checkering on it. It has a smooth frame like the early 17's. I have been told that it is very rare. Any ideas?

A guy I know, not well, who is really into Glocks was out shooting with me one day and happened to notice the pistol. He offered me $1000 and my choice of any new Glock I wanted in trade. Figured that was kind of odd so I declined.

I never paid much attention to it until then but then noticed that it was different from every other 19 I had ever seen in that it had the smooth early 17 type frame without any checkering. I stuck it away in the safe in it's tupperware box and haven't shot it since-3 years ago, got plenty of other Glocks anyway.

I've seen Gen3 G21s with no loaded chamber indicator, are these just early Gen3s?

I don't think that is a true 2.5.

I have G21 in gen 2.5.

Intially the compacts didn't come with rails.

I have a G30 well into gen 3, purchased new, that didn't have rails.

I should take that back  the G29/30's are considered sub-compacts by Glock. Intially in Gen3 thye didn't get rails. Then Glock put them on. They are the only sub-compact models that got rails.

I think it was 3-5 years into Gen3 until the G29/30 got rails.
