I am getting ready to build a 16" rifle and I am curious about the freefloating handguards vice the original. For a plinker is it necessary? Why the big difference in price between aluminum ones and DCM legal? I know free floating is supposed to be more accurate but is it going to make that big a difference?

Thanks for any help.

MOA is a means of measuring a grouping of shots on a target.

It stands for "minutes of angle"

Roughly translated...

a 1" group at 100 yards is said to measure 1 MOA

a 2"group at 200 yards is said to measure 1 MOA

a 10" group at 200 yards is said to meaaasure 5 MOA

And if that doesn't clear it up for you, a "minute of angle" is 1/60th of 1º (and there are 360º in a circle).  If you could place two perfectly straight lines 100 yards long that were joined at one end and had an angle between them of exactly 1/60th of 1º, then the other ends would be approximately 1" apart.  At 200 yards the separation would be 2", and so on.
