for instance would 10mm be a better caliber than 45acp in the winter because it might penetrate winter clothing better?
I don't want to turn this into a ammo flame fest.

Short answer…Yes…unless you already carry a 4 seasons round

I have a tendancy to carry my 45's in the summer and 10mm in the winter

45ACP should work well in all seasons.

the only logic there would be to carry FMJ in the winter so you wont have to worry about the bullet failing to expand due to it clogging on extra clothing, and carrying JHP in the winter.

But then again, if a JHP doesnt expand, its still bascially just a FMJ in performance terms.

I find it easy to ccw nines in the summer (light clothing) and a real gun in the winter/fall.

In theory, yes,  In practice, no, for most of us.  It's always better in theory to tailor your weapons (or any other tools) to the immediate task at hand.  Most of us have neither the time or money to maintain all the really nice to have tools for the myraid of things we would like to  do.

Dont feel the need. Plus we have a snowballs chance in hell of getting CCW here in the near future
