I am what the socialists hate most: conservative, gun owning, god fearing, working, middle class white guy. Of course they want my 401k and savings to be useless. Its not fair that I worked hard and saved and so many "less fortunate" than me didnt.

Don't say that. I'm still pissed about my house losing value in '08. My 401 isn't big enough to worry about yet. But I have wised up, so I have a couple different savings accounts, and some stocks now too.

If you keep money in the bank at the present near zero interest rate, you loose purchase power every day. Since 2008 the Fed Res has increased the supply of dollars on its books five fold. We didn't see the effect for a while since most of it went overseas (and hence the Arab Spring). As Russia and China continue to wean the world off the dollar as the world's reserve currency, that toxic asset will return home and then we will hyperinflate.
