Should a VP of your company have a clue about what the company does?

or is a general idea ok?


we're an off shoot of a bigger part of the company.  Totally unrelated to core business.  niche market.

but it's a pricy one as far as capitol investment (T&M equip and computers/software) goes

the VP doesn't have a clue and wants to run things based upon how the bigger part of the company operates (basically no capitol investment required)  upper mgmt tries, but it's a long uphill struggle.
