can anybody explain WHY a chicken wing is worth that much?this is bar price, but DAMN that's crazy! what the hell are you really buying?

Because you are stupid enough to pay $1 for half of a real chicken wing.
|
|
The days when wings were considered a junk part of the chicken and given away almost for free are long gone.
That's how the chicken wing craze started decades ago. Somebody figured out a way to sell a part of the chicken that til then had been tossed away as worthless.... |
|
That shit ain't free!
Got to buy the wing, cook it, pay the dude to cook it, pay the health care for the dude to cook it, pay taxes, etc. |
|
Probably worth a hell of a lot more than a buck to the chicken....

I rarely get wings when I go out to eat for that reason. If I want wings...I just go to the grocery store.
All you can eat wings for $10 > 10 "wings" (in reality five whole wing) for $10. |
|
I quit eating them for that very reason. Not paying stupid money for scraps.
|
|
need somebody in the food industry to explain this.whats the profit margin on these things?
|
|
Wife took me out for my birthday last week. Wings were $1.58 each.
I laughed at the waitress and asked for a glass of water. Left a $5 tip on s $12 bill but told the manager I would never be back on my way out. He cared less than I did. It's a scam, just say no and it's all fine. Was even less impressed with the place full of idiots cheating the Cleveland Browns, but that is another pointless subject. |
|
Whole wings are 45 cents each at the grocery store here, deep fried spicy or regular. I bought 10 earlier today with a side or rings for $8

Chicken wings used to be the cheapest cut of chicken. Even thrown away in many cases. Now it's the most expensive pound for pound. Talk about a successful marketing campaign. I have to say I like wings the best, when done right of course.

What is the actual percentage of meat VS skin, gristle, and bone and tendons on a typical wing, maybe 10% tops?
Drumsticks are cheaper, meaty, and one hell of a lot better tasting then wings are. |
|
I agree. I only get wings on Tuesday from BW3 because they are over priced otherwise. I can get a big package of wings at the grocery for $7.00. Cut them apart and fry them and I can eat for a day on them.
Oh, Gene5 thread! |

View Quote The key with wings is to time it when the grocery store marks them down because they're coming up on the sell by date. You can get them for damn near 50% off. The last time I made wings...I ended up with over 40 of them (20 whole x 2 pieces) and it set me back about $10. |

View Quote ![]() Let's keep chicken feet a low key thing. I'll let fuckers make faces all they want. Used to be that way with a lot of shit and then someone spills the beans. |

I hear you. 10 wings here in Miami for $10-$14 is a bit much. I don't order them all that much, these days. Oh well... Chris |

Find a special or sale. Wingsdays, etc. OP has no game and will never be a wingman.

I never cared for slimy hot wings.
I just buy a pack of whole wings at the store when they are on sale and either fry or bake them. Wings are the most tasty part of a chicken. Anyone who pays a dollar for half a chicken wing is a damn rube. ![]() |

When I'm feeling extra foo-foo, I'll give them a quick flash fry and then finish them on the charcoal grill. Best of both worlds. Some Frank's and you're set. |

Last time I went to BW3 it was $20 for a small order of wings, small potato wedges, and a soft drink. I can afford it, but it chaps my ass to get ripped off. Haven't gone back.

BW3 corperate is ending half priced wing Tuesday in September. boneless wings are cheaper.seems they were losing money. View Quote Plus, boneless wings can be made from chicken paste. People won't eat pink slime burgers and hot dogs but they'll wolf down chicken paste nuggets, tenders, and "Wingz". ![]() |
