many people say that SKS and AK stocks are too short for them.

why are they so short? i could understand if it was a chinese rifle, but i don't consider russians/eastern europeans to be shorter than average.

Poor diet so they are shorter?

They might depend more on women to fight than the west?

The designer was short?

My Dad has a Norinco SKS. I've mentioned to him several times that the stock is shorter than european SKSs.

suit up for a russian winter and that stock will be just fine

The key phrase really should be, "shorter than they prefer, but still very shootable." I'm 6'3" and shoot AKs and SKS's with out a problem. A smaller weapon is easier to handle.............M4?

Thick winter uniforms. The Russian winter can be a cold MF'ker (-40° or worse).

I'm tall but I like the LOP on comblock guns. I can shoulder it quickly and it just feels right.

Because godless commie bastards are also short sons of bitches. 'nuff said.

Yet many of the same people put "entry" stocks or the Sully stock on their ARs...

More compact. It's not a hunting rifle, its an assualt rifle.

I like the shorter buttstock and I am 6'1" with long arms.

...nor are the combloc recruits taught to shoot NRA Highpower style. Sadly, standard stocks here in the US are set up for just that...

I like the short LOP on the AK and SKS, and have a Sully stock on my M4gery. Damn near everyone I know who shoots an AR with an M4 colapsible stock runs it set on position 1 (or MagpulM93 on detent #2) for a consistant cheekweld/nose to CH sight picture.

Guess what that LOP matches up to?

They're made for "children-soldiers" and/or "A well regulated midget militia."

Colder climates mandates shorter weapons with shorter length of pull. Remember that most of the Combloc weapons were designed by the Russians and that they wear padded clothes not from being fashion conscious but because of the climate they must live and fight in. We all can't be in sunny Arizona or Northern Africa.

I'm 6' 4", very long arms, I have no trouble with an AK stock.

"They teach these men to drop fire on people but they can't write "fuck" on their airplane." Not the exact quote, but close enough.

I allways thought the longer the sight picture the better?

I dont like longer stocks because of comfort, but so I can obtain a longer sight picture.

Sorry for the hi-jack, I just dont understand.

I have a Trijicon reflex on mine.

(The front sight isn't straight on my WASR-10.)

You've obviously never used a Kobra sight or other Communist optics on an AK!

"Cheekweld? What's that, komrad?"

The longer the sight radius, the better as in the distance between the front and rear sights. Stock length of pull does not alter the sight radius.

Oh, ok. I did not know that.

I was asking a question, not saying I am an expert and I know all.

Jezz, how am I supposed to learn if you cant give good advice? BTW I dont have the means for a combat course.

They fit me fine

My norinco (chinese) SKS does seem to have a short stock, but then again, I have never handled any other brand of SKS. It's not short enough that im getting hit in the face from the dust cover whenever I shoot, but short enough I notice.
