So I went to the public range today to sight my new trs-25 and forgot it was robert e lee's birthday. It seems a lot of people came out to celebrate and I got lucky to get the last of the 50 yard spots. Anyway, out of the 12 spots all but one were shooting ar15's. the other was shooting a tapco fucked sks. I have never seen so many ar's on the firing line at the same time. All different demographics of people. This made me very happy to see. I normally shoot when it's much less busy so I never see so many at the same time. How about you all? Lot of evil guns in the hands of civilians?

I'd say ~50% have something evil looking.

Yeah pretty much this
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 7:28:08 PM EST
At the very least 50% have a mag-fed 5.56 or 308.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 7:33:49 PM EST
50-60%
probably
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 7:39:01 PM EST
Around here a high majority of lanes have some variant of an AR, AK, or SKS on them.

Link Posted: 1/19/2015 7:39:29 PM EST
I typically see more AK/AR pattern rifles out than all other types combined. And usually the guys shooting their bolt guns/etc will also pull out their AR at some point and shoot that for a little.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 7:40:03 PM EST
Up here, some. Mostly mine only.
A lot of Fudds worried about their deer rifles.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 7:40:40 PM EST
It would be hard to make an argument that they aren't in common use at this point.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 7:43:04 PM EST
When I go out to BLM ranges I see them just about every time.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 7:43:12 PM EST
Even though I see a lot of ARs, around here FUDS are probably still the vast majority of gun owners. Fudds generally aren't shooters.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 7:43:42 PM EST
The range I go to is a club, but with a large membership plus the guests they bring, I would say it's indicative of a public range. So to answer, being behind enemy lines in NYS, I would say I see about 45% handguns, 45% non evil long guns, or as some call them "fudd guns" and 10% evil.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 7:44:02 PM EST
60% in South Louisiana, maybe more.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 7:50:16 PM EST
I'd say close to 70% have an ar
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 7:52:49 PM EST
[Last Edit: 1/19/2015 7:53:10 PM EST by Atomic_Ferret]
~75% of the long guns I see at the range are EBRs of some sort.
In California no less.

Also, lots of people either have registered AWs or are ignoring the fuck out of our gun laws. I see a lot of non neutered stuff.
Not that I am gonna complain.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 7:56:49 PM EST
Only saw one on Sunday. Another fellow had a Garand. Four of us had smokepoles.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 7:58:04 PM EST
It's split pretty evenly between AR's and bolt actions.

I'm usually the odd man out with an AK

Reminds me that I need to order some parts tonight so I can get my AR SBR moving forward.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 7:58:34 PM EST
I see them. I just see deer guns more often.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 7:59:11 PM EST
70% ARs

Usually 1 slidefire

Lots of Burris optics

A few Mosins

Saw my first Larue in the wild last month.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 7:59:16 PM EST
I went to the range Saturday, besides me only two others had ARs/AKs everyone else had bolt actions.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 8:02:07 PM EST
Probably 80% if not more. Rarely see something thats not an AR type rifle.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 8:03:25 PM EST
A lot.

But very rarely is it anything I'm interested in.

Most have to weigh 15 fucking pounds with all the tacticool shit people throw on them.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 8:06:59 PM EST
Never know.

Some days none, other days, they are lined up on the benches.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 8:07:37 PM EST
Sans the prelude to hunting season, probably about 85% at the club I go to are using military styled rifles, AR's, AK's, FALs, and so on at any given time. I think almost all own one type or the other. The membership is well over 5,000 I believe.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 8:16:05 PM EST
Here? I'd say AR15s are close to 70-80% of the rifles at any public range. I went to a private, invitation only shoot by an older guy who hates AR15s and AR15s were the majority rifle there as well. The two guys who showed up with no AR15s had a SIG556 and an M1 Carbine.

Seems about right the last time I was at a public range. Well. Maybe even higher.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 8:17:58 PM EST
60-70%
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 8:20:02 PM EST
I'd say around 70%, but my guess is that being in the Vegas valley kind of skews things. There isn't a whole lot to hunt out here. I've heard that the Clark County Range tends to be a bit more fuddish.

same in NW Ohio at my range. The local indoor is a mix of AK/AR at 70%

At my range 100%
Have no idea about the public ranges here tho

My back yard is private but I see many AKs and ARs

Lately? EVERYONE!

Even the older guys break out a black rifle and
talk about SHTF on the horizon.

Link Posted: 1/19/2015 8:33:57 PM EST
I don't go to public ranges. But my brother and I both have them and we shoot a lot on the farm

50% +

I remember spending time at one of the largest public ranges in the world and being the only guy with an AR circa 2002.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 8:40:03 PM EST
I always see a few ARs and an occasional Kalashnikov, even in California.

The more inland, the more you see. There's no shortage in the San Joaquin Valley. I've seen quite a few "discrepancies" with the gun laws . God bless em.

I play the bullet button game and 10 rounder rule cause ya just never know who the asshole is gonna be.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 8:50:16 PM EST

Lots of 'em.

Link Posted: 1/19/2015 8:55:44 PM EST
I guess I can't answer.
I've only been to a public range twice in the last thirty years, and as I remember I saw no AR/AK types other than mine, but there was a guy shooting a very tricked out 50 BMG target rifle.

When I go public, I go first thing in the AM.

The owner unlocked the door for me the last time.

I don't talk to others and prefer no one else be on the line when I'm there.

I try to keep my exposure to the retarded to a minimum.

That said, I only notice others when they shot loud, or big flash of light guns, or do dumb things.

Yep. Seen a lot more new Ar owners in the past 6 years at my range. The fudds even seem to have them now too.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 9:22:17 PM EST
I would say 75% to 80% have ether an AR (most common by a long shot) or AK (very few) variant.

Other than AR's I usually just see .22's or some pistol. But at some point 80% of the time they pull out there AR's.

The club i belong to mostly older fudds who target shoot, hunt, skeet or still shoot idpa. Usually less than 25% shooting semi auto rifles. Even had some that were surprised my ar10t shot as good as some of their bolt guns.

However at the public indoor range, if there are rifles there, they are ar type.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 9:29:07 PM EST
Any weekend I go out to C2 shooting center in Virginia Beach, I would say 7 out of 10 shooters have a AR. Quite often you see folks with non AR black rifles but for the most part ARs'.

There is a range me and my Dad go to when I'm in Florida, near Ormond Beach. My first two times I was the only guy with a AR.

Normally go 1-6 times a month and say 85%
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 10:17:10 PM EST
Probably about a 70/30 ratio of AR to AKM clone.

Mostly cheap DPMS Oracles that have been Magpul or UTG pimped. Colt LE 6920 rifles, Stag Arms ARs and Bushmaster rifles. Rarely see a nicely done up one with quality optics. Suppressors are becoming more popular, though.

In the AK department, usually stock 7.62 stamped AKMs with the occasional milled outlier. Very rare to see a 5.45 AK. Even more rare to see a 5.56 AK.

On Long Island before the safe act, AT LEAST 50% or more. Local gun stores will tell you that black rifles were about 40+% of the business back then.

These days I would say 25% black rifles from what I've seen.
