what suppressor should i buy first?

[ARCHIVED THREAD] - what suppressor should i buy first?

The ultimate answer is get both. Just can't do it at the moment. Looking at a .556 can and a .22 can. I have a SBR but no .22 host. Cost wise I could pick up a .22 with suppressor for just the cost of the .556. Help me spend my money.

There's a dedicated suppressor forum.

I always recommend .22LR as a first suppressor.

Have you heard 556 suppressed before? Especially with an SBR. You will still need hearing protection.

If you have an SBR AR, get a good 5.56 can (I prefer thread-on). You'll never regret it.

.22lr cans are cool but mine sits idle these days due to neckbeard fucktardery.

I've shot a .22 suppressed, 9mm and ak. I know there's still a crack but it does tone it down quite a bit.

If I had it to do over again, I would have gotten the Silencer Co Octane 45 HD first. User servicable. Multi caliber with different pistons. It works as well as my .22 cans. Deadly quiet on my .38spc lever gun and .300blk. Does all my threaded pistols. For a dedicated rifle suppressor I wish I had never bought a 5.56. Still had to get a .308.

FPNI - .22 can is the gateway drug. In and out of the deal for a good can at $500.00.

.22lr is generally the best for a first can.

If you're getting a rifle can, skip the 5.56 can and get a .30cal can.

A 5.56 can is shorter and lighter for the most part.

The sole exception I would make is to get a Surefire 762 MINI and use it on 5.56 primarily as it is the same size as the 556 SOCOM.

I went 308, 556, then 22LR and don't regret it.

SBR or not I need hearing protection when suppressed as the port noise makes my right ear ring if I don't.

I use my 7.62 can on my .22 bolt gun. no shit, the first sub-sonic round, I pulled the bolt to make sure it wasn't a squib.

Unless you're going for the lightest suppressor possible on a 5.56 go with a 5.56 specific suppressor.

Otherwise get something like the Silencerco Omega or Saker 7.62. The Saker has a 5.56 end cap that makes the 7.62 suppressor quieter than the 5.56 Saker.

I went ahead and got both a 7.62 and a .22 suppressor at the same time.

They are both in jail right now.

But not the SBR - min barrel length with 5.56 is 16 inches.

Also the mystic isn't cheap - with mount, you are pushing $800.

A Spectre II is around $300 and a Specwar 556 is $550. Granted you have to pay for a second stamp but you then get two dedicated suppressors.

Did they ever clarify if the brake on the end can be removed or not? Seems promising though I would really like a 51T mount option just so I could use my existing mounts for my M4-2000.

ETA: For clarification I am not recommending using a 7.62 saker as a .22 can, as it would clearly be ridiculous. However at less than an inch longer and 2.9oz heavier than my M4-2000 I think the ability to also run 308, 300blk etc through it is well worth the trade off.

I am a beginner with suppressors but the 22 can I have gets messy internally due to the .22 ammo. I would not use my 556 suppressor with 22. Ammo.
That being said the 22 can is the most fun. It's light and quiet with subsonic ammo.

If I could start over I would buy a 22 can(the silencerco one rated for 5.7 x 28 also) and a lightweight titanium 308 can. Regular .308 cans are heavy but if you got a light one you could use it on your .308 and 556 guns. I would also buy a .45 can. Those three should give you the most flexibility.

I have a saker can from silencerco. It's nice because you can switch it from gun to gun with the nice mount it attaches to.
I bought a screw on advanced armament 308 can. I'm always worried it will come loose and result in a baffle strike. It is also harder to switch from gun to gun because it has a unique thread pitch(steyr 18 x 1) If I could do it over I would get some sort of quick disconnect system.

I would also buy a can you can disassemble and clean if possible.

There are a lot more knowledgable people on this forum but that is my 2cents from a newbie perspective

Been looking at the specwar556 and spectre. These a local guy that manufactures .22 suppressors. They look good, cost $250. The only thing that bothers me is the tube is mild steel. Baffles are aluminum. Would prefer all aluminum or stainless. Not sure if the $250 covers dealer transfer.

My first can will be an Octane 45HD. It can safely handle anything from 22LR to 44mag and 300 blackout. It can be disassembled for cleaning.

Next on the list after that is either a 22 sparrow or a 30 cal saker.

I met an arfcommer this weekend to go shooting. He brought out a couple suppressors. His silencer co one was fantastic. Cheap it was not but awesome it was. Dont know which model but it was a 556 can and i want one REALLY BAD!!! It worked great

Mild steel tube is OK - aluminum baffles really limit your cleaning options. What kind of baffle design? Unless it's an encapsulated design, you will be cleaning more frequently to keep the baffles from being "welded" to the tube.

I bought a Spectre II for my first can in December. I went with a .22 can first because I want the "Hollywood" quiet and it's cheaper to shoot, sorta.
