I collect WW2 Japanese weapons and my favorite non-firearm is my NCO Shin-Gunto sword.  This is an aluminum cast handled, steel scabbard, machine made bladed version of the Officer Shin-Gunto (samurai sword).  Matched numbers and in great condition.  Posted a couple pics of it:

Here are a few of my Japanese bayonets:

A Spartan Doru. Eight feet of melee domination. Has an 8" long, 1" wide triangular spearhead on one end, a 8" long, 3" wide blade on the other end... You can stab with it, you can slash with it, or you can throw it (although that generally isn't a good idea). You have better standoff-range than almost any other melee weapon out there.

First hit first kill.

Sword = < A good spear.

EDIT:  Never mind, I just read this moronic thread - there is no answer....

I beg to differ. A Greek style spear is by far easier to poke someone with than a sword.

Except with a spear, they're going to be six feet away, instead of two or less.

ya swindle!  with my fruity swiss guard halberd, I'd stab you and hack you before you could even touch me with your sword

I know some guys who do medieval combat as a hobby in a large organization...

One year, one of the groups decided to get back to the "historical roots" of the fighting, rather than just what we see in the movies... So they studied it and started training with pikes, rather than the Made-For-TV sword combat everyone else did...

That group won the championship in that years games.

They had "killed" somewhere in the order of 700 people in three days of games... They had lost something on the order of 13.

History also backs that Spear(Pike, etc) = > Sword... Look at the various times in Greek history when the Phalanx faced enemies that did not use spears... The result was always a bloodbath.
