I know some guys who do medieval combat as a hobby in a large organization... One year, one of the groups decided to get back to the "historical roots" of the fighting, rather than just what we see in the movies... So they studied it and started training with pikes, rather than the Made-For-TV sword combat everyone else did... That group won the championship in that years games. They had "killed" somewhere in the order of 700 people in three days of games... They had lost something on the order of 13. History also backs that Spear(Pike, etc) = > Sword... Look at the various times in Greek history when the Phalanx faced enemies that did not use spears... The result was always a bloodbath. |
