Just wondering how the unions in your sheriffs office are broken down, is everyone covered by the same union? or do the road patrol and jail deputys have diffrent unions? where do the supervisors for each fall what about the detectives? what about the civil deputies? and what is each postion considered? police? peace? do your civil deputies have full police power? thanks

The reason I ask is that everyone used to be in the pba now that has changed, the jail and the road have gone to diffrent unions, the civil guys are left hanging at the moment, the road supervisor are covered by the same contract as the deputies but the jail guys are trying to kick the jail supervisors out of the

Ours are split by race, sad to say, but they cover all up to capt. i think....We never get anything done since we lack unity...many belong to multiple unions/association (FOP, TMPA ect.)
Admin knows we're divided and uses it against us...plays one against the other.

Twenty-some  years ago we broke off from the rest of the county.
Ten years ago the Jail went off on its own when the two divisions didn't see eye-to-eye during contract negotiations.
The Road, including Civil, Investigations and Clerical are all covered by the same union currently.
Corrections are Peace Officers; all others are Police Officers.

Same contract for all of the dept. except for supervisors. Sgt and above have their own contract.

Our union also represents other smaller agencies including the court staff, but they each have their own individual contracts.

Jail and street are seperate here when it comes to bargaining units. We (Corrections) have a union and they (Patrol) have a guild. But we both still answer to the Sheriff.

We're all in the same FOP lodge, but the dispatchers have a separate contract and bargaining committee from the sworn and non-sworn employees of the sheriff's office.

Nassau Cty NY

Sheriff's Dept Division of Corrections we have our own Union for CO's
We handle the Jail and Transport to Courts,Hospitals and other Correctional Facilities
CO's are considered Peace Officers
No seperate bargaining for different ranks and no talk of division at all

Sheriff's Deputies have a Seperate Union
They handle Family Court and statewide Warrants
I'm pretty sure regardless of Rank there is no division

Police Dept has their own Union for Patrolman, Superior Officers and Detectives

There has always been strife between the CO's and Deputies and they've fought in Court several times to take the outside jobs from us
Everytime they've
There are over 1000 CO's and probably under 70 Deputies
