This is an easy one. I never give any of my money to any organization.  Simple.. every organization no matter how Nobel have crooks.  If they want me to help I offer my time.  If they do not want me to help in that manner then I wish them good luck.

I always hated that at work.  I never gave a dime like that.  Not to them.  Not because they were trying to force me.  No way.

Yes, that occured a number of years ago...1993 or 94?  They're not your friends whatsoever.

HK you should ask if the UW executive team will be returning the excessive amount of money they consume for overhead.

They tried to twist my arm on that horseshit when I worked for the stinkin' phone company. I told them that I prefer to keep my charitable contributions where I can see them at work. The UW cheerleader came by and started spouting a bunch of crap about how  Imust not care for the less-fortunate and so forth. I asked her if she would like to come with me the next Saturday to take 15 mentally-handicapped orphans to a basketball game. Didn't think so. That was the end of that conversation.

Our UWay rep just told me that any contribution can 100% go to the Boy Scouts...

ETA: Our UWay chapter gave the local BSA chapter just over a 250,000 last year

Think it was on a chapter by chapter thing, but it was news as of 2-3 years ago still, one example Newsmax

Google on "United Way" "Boy Scouts"

That's a change then.  UW used to actively send the BSA part of the pot.  Then they quit, only designated donations would go to the BSA.  You should inquire how much of that $250k was from their general donation pool and not designated.

Either way, I wouldn't give money to UW, and would give it direct to the local council.

Whenever they hand me the literature and envelope, I throw it in the trash, usually while they're still standing there.
