You buy a couch from macy's:

They bring it in your house and place it.  Do you tip them?

are they filling my coffee?

Offer them a beverage, I don't believe any monetary tip is necessary as they make a decent (as in not $2.13/hr) wage.

No I do not tip anyone who gets a full wage, except for the chick who cuts my hair.  Tipping is getting out of control.

Why not? Give the a ten spot for a couple beers or so on you.

No harm in being nice.

Didn't you already pay for a delivery charge?

If they moved a lot of furniture and did so without scratching anything, I would give them $10 to help out with their lunch. But not for one piece of furniture.

I delivered furniture part time for several years. Never got a tip, never expected a tip.

I delivered furniture for 15 years and appreciated every tip I made. It was not commonplace to receive tips though. 90% of my customers were GHETTO SECTION 8 WELFARE LEECHES. I never expected tips, but when one was offered I thankfully took one.

Offer them a drink. But if its something huge and very obnoxious to move and they have a hard time but still do it professionally...then yeah maybe a extra $5.

I tip them something nominal like 5 bucks each.

Delivered furniture for almost 4 years.  Got tipped on about 1/2 the deliveries overall.

Personally, if it were multiple pieces, they assembled shit, stayed for like an hour or more setting it up, I'd do 20 each.  If it were a one heavy piece, pain in the ass delivery, I'd tip the guys 10 each.  If it's an average delivery, maybe 5 each.  One light couch, right in with no tricks or stairs, no tip.

But that's just me.

edit:  if they're good, professional dudes and you feel like tipping well.. i will just say, you can make a guys day with a 20 spot each, and they will not forget. lol

If they do a good job (i.e. professional, polite, quick), I'd probably give them $5 each or something.

If I can afford to not only buy a couch at a department store, but have someone bring it to my house, I can probably afford to give them a few bucks.

This.  It's Christmas too!

Besides, it is the season for giving.....

If someone does a job I'm capable of but unwilling to do they are tip eligible.

Depending on their work ethic I have tipped them before.

Best tip I've ever received is $150 cash money.

Worst tip I've ever received is that I was worthless and not worth a damn.
I never expected a tip while I was working, but never turned one down.

they're usually charging me $50-100 to deliver... otherwise I would tip

My wife had a hide a bed couch delivered in August. 99 degrees, 110% humidity. Two guys carried it through the yard to the back door. They set it up, cleared up all the packing and plastic.  I offered 'em bottled water from the 'fridge. One guy took it, the other politely declined. 1st guy says "I'll take his, its hot outside".
When they were leaving, I slipped them $10.00.

I have a buddy that delivered furniture. I never asked him if he was ever tipped, but he did tell me that he was paid a commission based on the price of the furniture to be delivered for the day. He said he was on a good route in a nice part of town and made some really good money.

That being said...I wouldn't tip them. They are doing their job and getting paid well for it. You already paid the company in one way or another for it to be delivered, so no need.

I know it's this way for some places.

But our company would charge 30 bucks for local delivery, sometimes waived if it was a large purchase.  The delivery guys never saw a dime of the delivery charge.

As for getting paid well... if that were the case, I'd still be delivering furniture... cause that shit was easy on an average day, heh.  We got paid dick, and appreciated the hell out of every tip we got.    That last sentence sounds gay.  You get the idea.
