I was getting ready to go to the Guns across America Rally in Utah yesterday
when I could not find my single point sling for the AR i was going to open carry.
so I grabbed the first SKS i found in my safe and ripped the sling off it. Now everyone in Toledo can laugh at my sling.
who knew that the AP Photographer wasn't bull shitting me.

My current sling is a cheapo $5 nylon thing with screws on one end and a loop on the other
Link Posted: 1/20/2013 1:37:52 AM EDT
Have you had a chance to actually use this substitute sling for shooting, to see how it stacks up?
Link Posted: 1/20/2013 1:38:13 AM EDT
Meh... Single points are ghey anyways.

Link Posted: 1/20/2013 1:40:52 AM EDT
Should have used the name Rusty Shackleford.

What kind of co-witness do you have with that m3 on the RRA handle? I have the same "tactical carry" handle, and I'm lookin around for optics.

pretty sure it's a good lower 3rd but using the no longer sold Ultra low Aimpoint Mount

Oh. I prefer absolute CW.

Might just have to get a T1/H1, they do an absolute CW with factory low mount

I did the same thing. My wife wanted to carry a rifle but I only had one sling that could be used for 2 point so I made a sling out of part of another sling and back pack hardwhare. Worked pretty well.

You're not truly hardcore until you use a guitar strap from a Guitar Hero game as a sling.

ETA: Alaskacajun's guitar strap sling:

It could have been worse. You could have been like this guy at the AZ rally muzzle sweeping everyone.

A: awesome!

B: i hate single-point--the rifle bounces around constantly.

C: with 2 zip-ties (at stock and front sight tower), you could have turned that into a 'tactical' carry sling.

edit: but C would not have been as cool as what you wound up with.

Why is that grip pod a mile away from the magwell?

You have a standard buttstock, fully extended. There's a hole in it. Cut flag to fit.

Muzzle should be down.

Because a bipod at the magwell is bad for balance. The further the bipod is from your shoulder, the better.
Link Posted: 1/20/2013 7:15:39 PM EDT
What exactly are we supposed to be laughing at?

I am not sure that I have ever really noticed what someone else uses for a sling...

Naw, they are great for a course or if you're actually shooting. They just suck if you have to walk around a bunch and you don't need to keep your rifle at low ready the whole time.

The forces exerted on the barrel will change the point of impact more if the bipod is further from the magwell. Unless the handguard is free floated, then it doesn't really matter.

Looks free floated to me.

I use Oliver Tabuger.

It's less conspicuous, especially if you pronounce the last name funny.

Nonsense. My first sling on my first AR was my bass guitar sling

Was there any ammo in that mag?

This is why I like the magpul MS3. I end up using it as a 2-point a lot but I like the option of converting to single within 5 seconds without taking it off.
