I met two slaves in my younger days.

One of them was said to be 114 in 1970. He remembered slavery and became friends with my Grandfather in his later days. The other was 100ish in 1968, I dont know the connection, but I met her through my Grandmother, she was only born in slavery and came north right after the war, she didnt remember anything.

I had a lot more exposure to older people like my cousin John, born just before the turn of the century who loves telling stories of days long gone, and a friend of my Grandfathers, who would tell stories passed on from his parents. The slave catchers coming north of the Ohio river is the one that he tells I remember most.
