What would happen if somebody led what would ultimately amount to civil disobedience...but on an enormous and relentless scale...
the way I read the political mood right now...things are ripe for something big. nothing is more insulting than our collective government (I'm talking town, county, state, federal) where corruption is rampant and disgusting...its time we send a message to our officials that enough is enough and this is their last opportunity to fix it. So we have a day where tens of thousands of people, all across the nation, bust the speed limit by 15 mph. Then there is a day when we cause massive traffic jams...and we think of new and increasingly annoying ways to break the rules... What do you think? Fuck Obama Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

I think the next step is to petition your respective states for redress and protection from oppressive federal laws, exercising and demanding 10th amendment protections.

Not that I would advocate such a violation of Federal law , but imagine what would happen if everyone set their income tax withholdings to 0 and "forgot" to file their returns.

Most of us here dont live in Korea. On a serious note, there arent many cases that petitions have done much good other than waste time. Correct me if im wrong. |

Just giving a heads up to the OP before an actual Staff Member sees it, I didn't click on the report button since I'm not a hall monitor. |

Quoted: IBTL. And when do we start? More importantly, what is to be done? The civil rights movement used civil disobedience in targeted form, not mass hysteria. That focuses the attention on something specific you want changed/addressed. It is bonus if it shuts down a vital function (think college sit in, or protest line at an abortion mill). Targets, guidelines, and demands that can be met are the keys to civil disobedience. Without those you are easy to write off as hooligans or anarchists (think G5 protests, etc...). |

I'd say there is a limit on how effective that is though.... i.e. you can only arrest so many / inflict harm on so many until the populace gets the point and turns on you in a violent way. |

That's another thing I wonder about - if riots similar to G5 riots happened but were politically based - how long until it would take to get violent? After seeing the riots on TV, how quickly would it incite others to join in? I have a feeling that everyone is waiting for someone to start it, and then it will become like a boiling pot. I'm not advocating any of this by any means, but that's just how on the edge I feel we as a nation are right now. |

Most of us who support the same ideals you do... have jobs. A couple days in jail is a big deal for us. So, we, quite frankly, have better things to do that sit-ins.

In response to all you CoC cry babies. Please see the big red area. He's just asking a question... and then going into detail about his question. I so no "advocation" of anything.

You would have your hair washed with Hickory Shampoo (even the cops on this board would beat you down...because you are going against those who pay them).
You would be jailed, you would be bankrupted and silenced for trying to do this. |

until you reach a critical mass, you'll just be another stat in the annual FBI crime report.

I would say, shame on you for not taking a stand when it is due. Saying, 'I have too much to lose' begs laying the heavy lifting off on someone else while the power of the government (Federal, State and local) continue to strip your rights until you are at last powerless. If not you (including me also) to stand up collectivly and push back, who to you leave it too? The believe that 'we can vote the fools out' is a child's pipedream - one only has to look at history to prove that the new replacements mirror their predicesors. The sad fact is that for the most part, only a very few very brave of us will take the hard stand when the time comes. Just my opinion.

Hypothetically speaking, Withholding taxes would be the biggest stick to make them pay attention. But It would take a concerted effort by at least 5 million to overwhelm the system. I don't think they could jail 5 million at once.
