Go to the "Online Catalog" of the Bushmaster website and try to find the exact rifle he has. Different models are worth varying amounts. Does it have a flash suppressor on the end of the barrel and a bayonet lug under it? Find the model, if it is a newer one, and we can help more. www.bushmaster.com
Edited cuz I caint spel.

Never pass up a good chance at an AR-15.
Offer him $300, buy it, then sell it to me for $400

I would say it has a 20 inch barrel flipsites one mag. tacticle sling, and the only scrach on it is from brass casings hitting the deflector.

"Flash hidders and bayonet lugs do not, a pre-ban make." a wise old, handsome man once said.
Actually that was me and I'm not really that old.
If you can trust your buddy and he says a came as a complete rifle, notice if it's in a pre-ban configuration. That would add a couple hundred to the value. If he bought it before Sept. 94 he may have got a bargain and may be willing to pass some of that on to you.
Edited to add that that sounds like a pre-ban price.

no flash supressor or bayonnett lugs. How do you describe "pre-ban?"

If it doesn't have those two then it is probably "post".

I would go $600.
He got ripped he realy paid $1100 for a post ban.
Even if it's got a match barrel and match trigger you're still looking at a tad over $900.

I think DCM rifles are over a grand. Find out what the stampings on the barrel are. If it's a DCM barrel and he's not taking care of it, you may want to have a gunsmith check it out to make sure there's no corrosion (It's not chrome lined) especially if it's just been sitting for the last 2 years. If it's a regular 20" rifle then he's either jacking up the price or paid WAY too much for the gun new.
