First off i would like to thank all the veterans and those currently serving for their service to the country.

I have been talking to a recruiter and i was all set up to go to meps last Monday and Tuesday but at the last minute they noticed my name was spelled wrong on my social security card so i had to get a new one well i got it today and the recruiter wants me to go to meps this coming Tuesday and Monday.

The problem with going is it finals week at college and i have a ged so i need to make sure i pass all these classes so ill have enough credits to join plus i don’t want to ruin my GPA but my recruiter is insisting i go because he fears the army may soon not accept any ged holders even those that have the 15 credits and if i don’t go i won’t be able to enlist.

I have a good feeling that this is not true well at least for the immediate future i do know that they have more than enough people joining right now so the standards could change but does anyone in here have any insight if in the next two weeks that they could stop accepting ged with college credits i would be looking at going up on the 20th unless meps is closed that week for xmas? or do they only change the recruiting standards at the start of a new month.

(update)
Thank you everyone for the quick answers I enlisted yesterday 11x I ship out march 15th and made back in time from meps to study for my finals.

I dunno, but I doubt a policy change decision like that is going to occur within the next few weeks.

Meh, the Army will always be there...you should look out for yourself first (i.e. concentrate on finals).

Hope this helps and good luck.

If I  were in your shoes I would worry about finals. Allot of recruiters will always try to get in as soon as possible for various reasons but for the most part dont wast the money your putting in to your schooling and pass your finals.

Any recruiter is gonna try to put you in as quickly as possible so their numbers look good for that month.  First of all I am not big on giving advice.... but finish school if you can.  The reason is you can quickly get bumped up in rank a little.  Second, once you are in the military you are a piece of government property, not an individual anymore.  I have served and this is the best advice i can give you.  One other important thing that need to be mentioned is ALWAYS GET EVERYTHING YOUR RECRUITER SAYS IN A WRITTEN CONTRACT.  He can promise the moon and then when you get there you find out that may not happen, recruiters are like used car salesmen.  Just my 2cents.

Your recruiter is right they can drop that program at anytime.  I was able to enlist GED/HSED in Oct. then it was closed for a month....then opened up for 2 weeks..and now is closed again...it could be 6 weeks or 6months before it open again who knows.

This + 1.

The recruiter isnt BS'ing, GED slots can literally close anyday and the recruiters dont know what that day is. Also policy can change regarding the 15 SH piece also, again anytime.

Trust me,I deal with DA policy everyday and it is very violitile right now to say the least.
For example, my unit now has over 10 MOS's that are now classifed as overstrength and must reclassify if they want to reenlist, or ETS. This was all without prior notice and was effective immediately.

Your recruiter probably isn't lying.  GED's were tough to put in, and they would be the first catagory to be cut if the Army changes it's enlistment standards.

So you're at least 17-18 and it took a recruiter to notice that your name on your social security card was spelled wrong?

Maybe YOU have been spelling it wrong all these years?

I spoke to me teachers arranged to make up for the classes I’m going to miss Monday on Thursday and Tuesday I have no classes so it looks like I’ll be going to meps next week.

Ill let you guys know how i make out at meps and on my finals.

Finals... finish school.

We're always here in the Army, we keep rolling on...

Gaaawd. I actually used the Army song in a post... I've gone too far in.
