hey guys,

I have 600 bucks to spend on upgrades.

I have been out of the game for  awhile (sorry for pun) so I really don't know today's most current stuff.

All I need are a cpu/mobo, ram, and graphics card....I am currently running a evga nVidia 8800gt...is that worth using?

What's the best bang for the buck?

Thanks

I'm still using an 8800GTS 512 and it still handles everything I throw at it quite well.  I'm just now starting to look at the newer (400 series) Nvidia cards, but I don't see any reason to replace your 8800GT unless you're looking at building a high end rig.

What are the rest of your system specs (processor, RAM, OS, etc)?  You might be able to pick up a cheap 200 series video card and some extra RAM and still have plenty of money left over for a few games!

that's all?  why didn't you just say you need a whole new computer??  :)

but seriously, i hear the new GTX460's are awesome for around $225.  look at the 1Gb versions, they have 256bit ram, verse 192bit ram for the 768Mb versions.

Here's the rest of what I have......I wonder if 600 worth of stuff would be enough of a performance increase to merit the cost?

AMD Athlon 64 dual core 5600+ for the cpu
4 gigs of ram
eVga 8800gt
Windows XP SP3
600 watt power supply
cant remember what motherboard I have

get a couple ATI 4850/4870s and be done with it for a while a ~200 upgrade that will hold you over for a while.

most PC games aren't that CPU intensive.
