Six grand is a substantial sum for an engine swap. I'd say for $6k you could do it.

That dollar figure sounds about right. I guess he's talking about ~lude VTEC engine. People in Kalifornia do that engine swap all the time.

I have seen a 42x hemi mounted in a Pontiac GTO. Anything is possible.

I know of somebody that dropped a 360 V8 into a Yugo. No shit.
They had plenty of money, and they did it just to say they had. Fastest Yugo you ever saw! [:D] |

I once saw and drove a Corvair with a midships mounted 327 Chevy. Unusual drivetrain, and even more unusual cooling system.
Main drawback was that the front of the car would lift at high speeds, sort of like a hydroplane boat. Very tough to steer without the front wheels on the ground. The technique was to gently apply the (carefully adjusted!) parking brake to reduce speed and bring the front wheels back down to the road. Of course, the parking brake didn't last too long with these antics... |

I had a friend who once put a Holly 750 double pumper on his girlfriends Mazda RX-7. And it RAN [shock] and not too bad either.

I helped a friend put the motor & tranny from an IROC Z-28 into one of those little Ford Rangers last summer. Talk about having trouble getting traction.....
IIRC he got the wiring harness from Summit Racing. |

Have you seen the Monster Miata? I think they put a 350cc V8 in a Miata. Kinda sticks out the top of the hood, but hey it's in there.

Where there's a will (and mullah) there's a way. The trickiest part was figuring out how to connect the tranny to the front wheels. Edited to add: The same friend has a 351 Cleveland in his Toyota 4Runner. Go figure that one out. |

I have a friend that crammed a Pontiac 400 small block into a Porsche 944. Breaks the transmission all the time but man is it fun when it works.

i once put a chevy 327 in a japanese pickup. to add insult to injury, i later helped a friend do the same swap. if youve got some cash, a welder, and a vivid imagination, you can build just about anything.

I have a 4x4 mag that has a jeep wrangler (yj) that they put a dodge 488 v-10 in. A 6.2 v-8 diesel in a jeep cj-6. A guy that lives down the road from me has a Cat 3208 V-8 Diesel in a early 90's chevy 636ci (10.4l). A guy over in Fort collins has a late 70's ford with a old john deere inline 6 diesel in it. A electrican that used to work on the same site as me had just dropped a chevy 383 stroker with nos and a blower in his s-10. any thing can be done. I know of allot of home built airplanes that use mazda rotary engines that are twin turbo charged and have another rotar attached to them 600+hp at 20,000 feet and almost 400mph.

My bro had a '71 VW bus with a Buick 215 aluminum-block V8 mounted in the back. Ran a little hot, but was fun as hell to drive.
Then he had a Volvo sedan with a Corvette LT1 engine. Man, that thing hauled ass. Anything is possible, and has probably already been done. |

Hahah, computer guy, obviously your not from the beautiful import filled state of Kaliban. We do those conversions all the time in those little rice rocket shops. Depending how used the engine in, it can get as cheap as $3500....that is if you have the right hookup. It really fits fine, because the civic has a crapload of space under that hood. And with that remaining 2500? For 1600 i can get you a ghetto ass turbo kit installed, and the remaining 900 goes to your other piping and suspension goodies. And there you go, your standard rice rocket =D
But yea, people fit some amazing crap into the civic, because it has such a light and sturdy body. (well, scratch that sturdy) But it makes it pretty ideal for your cheap good ole street racing. You'll have all the hoochie young girls checking out your car when u pull up to the malls and whatnot. ANd when your on the freeway? You'll get assholes hi-beaming you constantly cause they wanna race. And then you'll get pulled over by your good ole CHP officer and write u up for having all this illegal crap on your car. Ahhh , the kaliban experience. I sure do miss those days. |

Yes, the 2.2Vtec will drop in with modified engine mounts and obviously the engine harness and ECU. Additionally, the larger 2.3DOHC Si engine drops into civics, Del Sols and Integras as well. The only problem is the axel length and an addition of torque steer from unequal length axels. Tranny's and such also bolt in with a slight change in location inside the car. Obviously the springs and shocks have to be taken into consideration as well, since there is more of a tendency to "dive" under hard braking.
Under $6000? Absolutely! Last time I looked, the prelude parts could be found for under $3500 and you'll find a plethora of shops to do it under $2500. Street legal? Again, ABSOLUTELY, as long as it maintains smog compliance. There is nothing wrong with this engine swap until you go into custom after market parts and pieces, then you have to see if they are certified. |

The Honda Prelude VTEC motor and transaxle will bolt directly in place in a CRX, but i don't know about the civic. Most of those foregin POS's are mass produced and have interchangable engines/transmisions/suspension..ect. So i guess it could be possible. And i'll do it for 6K, plus the cost of the car :)
(you can buy a slightly used Prelude VTEC online for about 2-3k) But if you wanna see real balls, come check out my '78 Cutlass (runs high 11's :p ) Or my Miata all-wheel-drive, 2.3 (ford)turbo :) |

There are many HUNDREDS of Civics that have Integra GS-R engines in them, and even some Type-R engines, with a full 5-lug wheel/axel/brake conversion. Most parts interchange pretty easily. They're designed that way. Many of these engines are available in Civics from the factory in Japan and other countries. We rarely get the good stuff here due to our emissions laws.

I drove a Bug Eyed Sprite with a 427 Chevy in it. For those who don't know what a Bug Eyed Sprite is, you are too young to read this. After the reinforcing and frame alterations for eng. trans. and dif. the thing was like a Funny Car more than a street machine.
