We took a 20% cut at the beginning of the year. Still am thankful to have a job though... sorry to those that have been laid off and best of luck on the job hunt. It's tough times for all right now and not looking good anytime soon

After our third round of layoffs, we just found out that the survivors are having to endure a 5% cut across the board, for everyone, salaried and hourly.

They cut 9% of the global workforce over the past 6 months, partly as a reaction to the economy, and partly reorganizing due to some recent acquisitions.

Nobody has been terminated at my facility yet, but they haven't replaced the last few people who've left.  Technically no pay cuts yet either, but they've asked several departments to cut overtime, which is basically the same thing.

Thankfully, my dept is still running full throttle - we're seeing very little slowdown due to the economy.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Self employed. I'm still working but for a lot less. Been in construction 27 years, this is the worst I've seen.

We're letting go large portions of the foreign teams (Egypt, Germany, etc.) and non-essential people in marketing here in the US, but  other than that, we are okay for now. We may even hire one or two guys in a couple of months.

But I've seen everything go to shit super fast at other jobs, so I don't plan my life around anything upper management says or promises.

that sucks for you guys. i, fortunately, will always have stupid drunks and old people to haul around, but i'm getting out of EMS anyways. been in for 5 years and still havent had a total of $1.oo raise throughout.

I have three job offers in the past month.  Not too high on the pay scale but they require a background check and interviews.  According to this thread, I'm very lucky.

Or, are my standards too low or others too high?  Not flaming, but I've been living on a small income for almost two years.

2 months ago, we started to get real slow, so after our work was done each day we washed windows and cleaned up and did all sorts of stuff just to keep busy.  that lasted for about a month so the owners started asking for people to leave early if they wanted to, with vacation pay if you have any left, if no vacation left, you can just leave anyway without pay.  some took them up. i didnt because i feel that it looks better for me, if they decide to layoff, that i want to work and that i want to be there.

my wife lost her job in a real estate/banking support position last year, so i know how hard this is for everyone

good luck to all that lost their jobs

I'm sorry to hear that, and sorry to hear any fellow arfcommers in any kind of trouble.

And I'm going to sound like an asshole saying this, but I think it’s somewhat hypocritical for an arfcommer to express sympathy and yet condone letting the free market adjust itself.

I should have a new job next week at another local GM dealership, but the last two months being unemployed has been great believe it or not. I finally got around to remodeling my living room and am almost done and I also kicked my lifelong dream of becoming a cop into high gear. I did my written test with LAPD last week and do the written for CHP on 2-14. I figured it is time for a change and what better time than now.

My employer cut some benefits, but that's about it.  Two paid holidays were eliminated, and health + dental insurance were downgraded.  They are also trying to reduce hours.  Their avoidance of overtime pay is shady at best.  My pay is already so shitty that they can't really cut it.  I guess I should be glad that I have a job at all.

Rumor is a pay cut.  We already know we're going to lose 60 more in Feb (out of around 900 or so in my dept).  We've also (as a company) will be getting no merit increases.  We also have to take most or all of our vacation this year so our balance is minimal.  I don't really get that part but oh well.

Went from 70 hours a week in '07 to 40 a week in '08. That cost me over $31k that year.

Now we are down to just 32 hours a week. I don't have any debt and am squeeking by, but that's about it.

Public servant, no raises for the next 2 years and we now have to pay mileage to drive our vehicles home at nights and I work for an emergency response agency, on call 24/7/365. To quote our department leader "at least you still have a job"
No hiring, mileage restrictions and continue with the same programs.

What you need to do is help speed the collapse like everyone else in this position. Walk into HR and increase withholdings to get more cash back. Trust me, millions are doing that right now. When the decrease in tax revenue hits the Feds and States, services will decrease significantly, and you WILL need that money.

Remember, don't panic. But if you panic, panic first.

I went into the trash industry 17 years ago and surpisely things are really busy, I received a 17% pay increase and a end of the year bonus... I count my blessings eveyday.

Stay strong guys

Found out Thursday that all salaried employees will be going to a nominal "4 day work week." That's corporate speak for a 20% pay cut but you still have to cover all your responsibilities.

So much for my planned AR build. I'll have to be happy with the one 1.5 ARs that I have for now. Luckily, I just got stocked up on reloading supplies.
