I have been visiting the board for about a month now and decided to introduce myself. Finally got my self another AR after selling my last one just after the ban. The information here was very helpful in making my decision on which type of AR I should purchase. This board is the best around.

Welcome to the board, ghost45

Now what type of AR, did you get? Inquiring minds need to know?

First I bought a RRA lower because i knew i wanted an AR. Then spent weeks going through old posts on this board to see what upper to get. I finally decided on a 16" varmint upper from RRA. I wanted something for shooting small game at the deer lease and may even take it turkey hunting next month to try something a little different than a shotgun. Correct me if i am wrong but the 1 in 8 twist is better suited for heavier bullets.

ghost, first welcome to AR15.com.

Yes, the 1:8 twist is generally accepted to be better suited for heavier bullets.  Certainly the 1:8 will allow you to more accurately shoot heavier bullets than say the 1:12 twist which is about optimal for 55 grn.

Many of the newer AR's seem to be coming with 1:9 twist barrels.

Welcome! Gunbert, you said it......this is the ONLY website worth a damn that concerns firearms. Hell, when the site gets slow, it's like wanting to go visit friends, but they're all out of town.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I can tell that I will be spending a lot of time here and a lot more of my budget is going to go to my AR. I mean who really needs toilet paper anyway!
