drove to FL for a week with the kids and wife to take them to disney... we got in for free since my sister works there, but still spent ungodly shitloads of cash on over priced crap... :(

took my sister and husband to eat at a restaurant in animal kingdom, so 4 adults and 2 kids cost near 300$

we stayed at a disney all star resort,"also  discount" but you get raped if you eat there...

about a 100 brazilian teen girls came to the hotel when we were there, more then 1 thong at the pool.

best deal is hitting up the local walmart/publix/ buffet food "cici's pizza" "golden coral"

i took my CCW down with me, and anytime i left the gated hotel, i had it on, honestly, i "could" have carried it in the park but didnt feel like dragging it around on rides..

it was 97 the 1 day and felt like 200% humidity, i could never live there, i had to carry a towel with me to soak up the streaming sweat off me.

looking at people walking around in jeans and a sweat shirt was insane..

my twins are 7 and loved the rides, i told my daughter, the only fun way to ride is with your hands up...  hearing her scream like she was getting chased by a ax murderer was amusing..

went to St Pete's Beach., water was 90 and way more clear over the east cost, we had a manatee and a school of 20+ small manta rays swims threw us... it was hilarious to see the people freak out, my 7yo girl chased them down with me to get closer :)

lots of see thru clothing after the big rain storms

went to sea world... back when it was in ohio, the tickets were like 30$... in FL, it cost us like 80$ a head..

went to saint augustine

and Ron Jons

on the drive back, stopped at rest top on the way home, at around 3am, in north carolina, looked like NYC, with 6 to 12, foot long RATS sitting on and around the trash can.... wish i had my suppressed 22 :(

You neglected to mention the smell of the animal kingdom. Went down to Florida a few years ago and stayed in a condo right close by. I loved everything about Florida, including the daily rain showers. The only thing I didn't love was the smell of exotic animal shit in the air, 24/7.

Done right, Staying at a higher end resort on property with Bus Service, a Meal Plan, and a few grand of spending money, Disney is Tier-1 fucking awesome. We did 6 Full days there last summer, and had the time of our lives.

Except for once, my experiences with Disney have been in California. Yes it can be very expensive, but by far and away the best trip was with my kids after my divorce and I just spent the money. It was definitely short lived (until I got the bill), but I just didn't worry about the money. "Dad, can I have this?" "Sure". It happened just once, but it was a pleasure to have fun instead of sweating all the $$$ and saying, "no".

Sometimes you just have to do it, if only once

I went down a few years ago around Thanksgiving. The humidity drops down to around 175% at that time of year. We did the Cinderella character dinner.  3 beers in and the cost became inconsequential. Daughter had a blast.

Was just at the vacation club vilas at the grand Floridian last week for a week.  Our room was 2800 square feet. It was pretty sweet.   Going back August 5th to make the most out of our annual passes.  With 6 kids it's crazy.  This time I tracked spending.  You don't want to know :-p

Not a cheap place. We usually go in mid - October, when the weather is not too hot and humid. Use the "fast pass" system to avoid waiting in lines. You can make advance reeservations in the Disney website for many locations.

Glad you had a good time and good looking family.

If you want a better value next time, do some research and avoid the tourist traps!

It is definitely hot and humid in Florida for 3 of God's seasons. I've grown to like it when it turns hot and humid because it is a sign that the snowbirds are leaving.

They have a "Fast Pass" management system now, You really don't have to wait more than 10 minutes anywhere, if you have even the slightest bit of preparation for the day or the next.

When you take kids at 4-6 or so, everything is real and magical. The parents enjoy it by seeing the wonder on their kids' faces. Kids remember it more when thy are a bit older and enjoy it in a different way.

Your kids are young and with you only a brief time.

I don't regret a dime I have spent on Disney and other assorted vacations.

4 years old?  That's a waste, dude.  Kids that age don't have the age or intellectual capacity to appreciate something like that.

Asked my 3 year old if he wanted to go back to disney the second we got home last week and he said yes disney all excited.  Since we were there all he has talked about is disney.   He even yelled disney all excited when we drove near a skyscraper with a bunch of blue lights on two nights ago.  He loves it there.

She'll love it. There are several places she can meet princess characters and whole Disney Junior and Frozen areas, with shows, at Hollywood Studios. Mine was about 3 when we took her and she still talks about getting to meet the various princesses.

Hell they sell toy guns, they have mounted MG's at the Indiana Jones show in Hollywood Studios. Bunches of kids running around with those wooden flintlock replicas. The ride chaperones/narrators on the Great Movie Ride have a gangster shootout with blank firing revolvers. They aren't the anti-gun prudes that you think they might be.

Summer truly sucks at Disney unless your idea of a vacation is a trip to the sauna. 8AM in the morning and you sweat just standing still, in the shade.

We took our daughters, 7 & 4, there the week before last.  Best vacation ever!  Stayed at the Grand Floridian.  Incredible hotel.  Can't wait to go back.

Learned from last time to stay on the resort and do the dining plan.  All I had to pay for out of pocket at covered meals was booze and tip.  We went in 2011 and didn't do the dining plan.  A princess lunch at the Norwegian pavilion at Epcot was almost $300.  That's almost half what I paid for the entire dining plan this time around.  We were on our own for breakfast but it was about $20 for all four of us.

It was so much more relaxing and easy taking the Disney transportation than getting taxis lined up to go back and forth.  The boat ride back to the hotel after Magic Kingdom at night was great.

We took a stroller but never needed it. The girls were little troopers.  We did three days in a row at the parks, then took a day off and just stayed at the pool.  The last full day, we were at MK from 9am opening until about 11pm.  The only time they complained was when they realized that was our last night and we had to go back home.  Just kept them hydrated and busy.

I don't think we waited any more than 30 minutes for anything.  We used the FastPass to our advantage and swapped them out on the fly based on what wait times looked like.  Don't waste them on rides that have short wait times anyway.  We had fast passes to meet Anna and Elsa from Frozen on the last day but we hit them *early* the very first day.  Waited 20 minutes then caught other princesses at the same location and on the way out.

Rode the teacups, Dumbo and carousel countless.times.  Incredibly short wait times on those.  Pretty much walk up the to line and either that cycle or the next, you're on. 5 minutes or less. Same with the slow, continuous rides like Spaceship Earth and Small World.

Anyway, we definitely plan on going back next year or the year after.

FIFY, but basically spot on.  With the meal plan, you really don't need all that much spending money, although I imagine with kids that's a lot harder to do, since they'll want everything they see.

We stayed at timeshares the whole time.  Full kitchen.  Ate breakfast at the room, did the day trip, ate once in a while at the park.  If you dont plan on spending a lot of money at Disney, dont go.  Otherwise it is a blast.  You get what you put into it.
