I have always thought  about culling the herd down to about that much
A AR ,a glock and a 870, and a 10/22 and a hige pile of ammo mags and replacement parts
you need a 10/22 and you would pretty much be set

Hey, look at it this way. If your home was ever invaded and your guns confiscated, the press would still call that an "arsenal".

Looks to me like all you really need is some ammo for the RRA.

Then it sounds like you are being financially responsible.  Nothing wrong with that.  You have a fine collection of firearms in those 3, so I would recommend concentrating on AR and Glock mags.  Go at your own (wallets) pace.

You're OK as long as you have a way to carry your AR mags. Remember, if your rifle weighs more than 7 pounds, sell it and get a gun you can carry.

I am culling down my herd right now.

My only suggestion is to think about another AR at some point, as another ban is probably going to happen someday, and having a spare, if financially possible, is not a bad idea.

And a .22 handgun of course. .22's are great for practice and cheap fun when you don't have the money to blow on centerfire ammo.

for those thinking about selling weapons. eveytime I think about selling, I just buy more mags and ammo for that weapon. Problem solved, as I do not like mags and ammo for weapons I dont own

No .45 or .223 here

S&W SW99 w/ 3 mags and maybe 120rnds
Mossberg 500 w/ maybe 20 rnds
and and old Marlin .22 w/ maybe 300rnds

I am more pathetic than you in the eyes of most ARFCOMMERS.My "arsenal" consists of:

1 Bushy M4gery -6 30 round mags
1 HK USP 40  -5 10 round mags

1000 rounds XM193
200 rounds of various .40 caliber

These are the only guns I shoot, every weekend.I'm not going to lie though,If I had the cash,I would have lots more.Plus,if the shit ever hits the fan,I won't have to decide what weapons to bring along,I will bring them all.Half the people here will have to leave $15K worth of weapons behind.Shit,I think Steyr has more armament than a Infantry platoon, maybe even a company.

These 2 weapons will more than likely get me out of any situation that I may encounter.

To complete my collection, all I need is 2 more weapons:

Remington 870
Some sort of long range bolt action rifle, like a Remington 700 with lotsa goodies added on.

That's it.After i get those,i will become uber proficient in all my weapons.

I feel like I just went to the ARFCOM confession booth. Can I still be a member here ?

Damn,just Damn.

The problem as I see it isn't  quantity it's qualility. Dump the poodle shooter, shit where it eats .22 and step up to an M14/M1a.Toss the plastic fantastic Kaboom special and get a Sig P220.And sell that 870 to some Elmer Fudd and get the only REAL social shotgun. A pre 1975 Ithaca 37 Featherlite 8 shot riot gun.

Don't load up on junkie rifles and pistols just to have more. I see lot of people's collection and it's just crap. They have 20 weapons but there only worth like $100 each. And they don't have ammo or accessories for any of them.

You have a ways to go. A start, but just that. Stay within your budget and buy stuff as you can afford to.
Link Posted: 1/2/2006 5:39:14 PM EDT

That is a great start.

Hard to beat a 22.lr, You can get a cheap one or a upper for your AR. (I personnally only own .22s in "kits" anymore)

Also hard to beat the alloy J-frame for something to carry when you can't bring the big gun.

Other than that it's whatever direction your heart desires and your wallet can afford.

I'm a big believer in the two of everything plan.

My "primary" arms:
2-442s
2-G19s
2-M4s

Guns just cause I like to shoot or practice with them:
870 vancomp
870 SS
11-87 vancomp
bunch of different ARs to include a varmiter, LMT MRP, and a 300 whisper
2-1911s Warrior and WWII model
2-92FSs
.22lr kits for everything
Suppressors for everything

Then a few random things for no reason and a bunch of MGs

But there is a "plan" with most my purchases otherwise you have spent a bunch of money and some day you look at all your guns and wonder "now why do I own that?" I used to have a collection like that.

If I didn't teach I probably wouldn't even care about the shotguns, and If I wasn't in the service same with the 92FSs (though having and being qualified with the current service weapons is somehting I care about for no other reason than personal satifaction)

Since most of us can't own every gun we "want" we have to come up with a plan the maximizes are money.

The number of firearms that you have is not as important as your skill with them.  What training have you taken?

Hey, that's a good place to be. Grab a few M4 mags and a one or two more glock mags, more ammo, and go take a training course.

Training is more important than more guns.  Training and ammo, and you're set. You might need a sling and a holster too if you don't have one already.

You can never have too much training.

Your off to a great start.  Some guys own an entire armory here and still are not satisified.  Buy what you want and shoot it.  Take classes and join a club.  You can't enjoy if you cannot shoot your guns.
