If it's semi-auto and accepts detachable mags, it can't have ANY of the "evil features", including:

- Pistol Grip
- Bayonet Lug
- Folding/Collapsable Stock
- Flash Suppressor/Threaded Barrel
- Grenade/Flare Launcher/22mm Muzzle Device

This is due to the passage of Senate Bill 23 (SB23), which further broadened the definition of "assault weapon."  It went into effect on 1/1/2000.  If you owned one previously, you had until 12/31/2000 to register it.  Unregistered AWs are contraband.

Just so you know how it works: an LEO would run your gun's serial number and see if it came up on the "Assault Weapon" registration list.  This can be done via radio and/or via the computer terminal inside the vehicle.

If it doesn't show up on that list, you'll *definitely* loose the gun, and likely would be prosecuted.  In the end, and assuming you don't have any significant police record, you'd probably end up with a minor charge or even just a fine, but you'd also have to pay for lawyer costs, etc.  It can be costly.

And while there are plenty of pro-gun LEOs, you can't count on avoiding the hard-core anti-gun LEOs, and there are plenty of those too.
