I've noticed that Bushmaster sells a Choate Mini-14 Bird Cage Style Flash Suppressor.

Is having this installed on a Mini-14 with a regular stock just like having a pistol grip on a post ban AR?  It is really just one feature.  So it's not considered an assault weapon.

Yup, as long as the stock stays the same (IE no pistol grip) and the gun doesn't have any other features, it can have the flash hider.  Kinda like how a good number of the Springfield M14's now being sold have flashhiders.

I always liked the Mini14's with a full wood stock and long Ruger style hider on them.

Diameter doesn't matter, as you’d have a hard time slipping
anything over the front sight.
