i heard mark on a story about the awb sunsetting this morning. edit: for those that don't know it, mark owns armalite and is a pretty nice guy.

he was quoted twice...stated he only had about 40 pre-orders for the new eeeevil assault rifles.

he came off as intelligent and truthful.

sadly, they also had an owner of a gun shop on the same story and this goof actually supported clinton and the ban!!!!!!!

yet, his shop was well stocked with ak's and other assault rifles...what a tool! this goof said the ak could "shoot 30 or 50 times!". he also stated he had tons of pistols that could "shoot 15 times!".

damn! i gues that's so much safer than a gun that can only "shoot 10 times!".

the story was fair, overall. despite the liberal slant, the npr reporter stuck to the facts for the most part.

Did anyone point to the fact that the law has not yet expired, but there are legal non- 'assault rifles' that look like illegal 'assault rifles' on the shelves? Thus, from any political perspective, the the law is complete folly.

yes. i believe mark, the gun shop owner and the reporter all touched on this.

the gun shop owner sounded like he was SAD that the manufacturers had found way to circumvent the awb laws!!!!!

the reporter stated that the guns for sale for the last 10 years were basically the same as the pre-ban variety.

everyone pointed out that there was never a shortage of the old, pre-ban guns still on the market because they were "grandfathered" in...just that the prices went up because of collecting.

it was even stated that 90% (i'm paraphrasing from a poor memory here, fellas) of gun buyers were not affected by the ban nor would they be affected by the sunset. i agree with that, too.

the only disagreement i had with the report was that the reporter made the usual "these guns are favored by criminals" bullshit statement. dumb and untrue, statistically.

Yeah, there outta be a law about libeling people... oh wait, there is... you did it today.

honestly, i didn't think the guy (probably knows only a little about the actual guns) did too bad a job of it.

1. Used BCSHV "statistics" in lieu of real statistics

yes he did. and...he also stated that the statistics were often interpreted differently or confusing...forget his exact wording, but he did attempt to provide some balance to the stats issues, imo.

2. Stated that "many" pre-94 weapons were grandfathered instead of saying "all"

i missed that, entirely, but would say this was just an on-air mis-statement.

3. Had 2 anti gun sources and only 1 progun source, who only got two tiny sound clips

the gun dealer, while dumb as a box of rocks, was hardly anti-gun...and even continued to sell 'assault weapons' and high capacity magazines. he talked one story...and walked another one (it was obvious the  guy was not all that bright, imo).

i think it added honesty to the report. i used to know a few of 'that sort' of dealer...walnut snobs. thankfully, they are long gone from the scene.

the reporter's comments on the politics of why the ban was sunsetting were actually right on the money.

his comment about how the anti's were probably regretting that they allowed the sunset clause to be written into the law was so ironic it was like twisting a knife in their back. heheh! i laughed aloud when he said that line.

Sort of irritating that they interviewed Brady but not NRA.
