i have seen in shotgun news a system built for this very reason.
it involved a simple clamp as in the same ones used on laser lights, and an extension switch that replaced the end cap whare the ateries go.

adjust the light whare you want it set, and use the presure switch attachd to the handguard (velcro) to activate it.

if i find a link ill let   you know.

I suppose a big hose clamp would be a removable option

Yes, but the crappiest SureFire or Insight M3 puts out a hell of a lot more light than a Maglite and weighs a hell of a lot less to boot.

I suppose you could use a Mini-Maglite, but then you have to deal with twisting the bezel to turn it off/on.

twisting it on and off is not a big issue.  I could save 100 bucks or more.  rather have that money for other toys.

Try a 2AA maglight with zip ties and a rear pressure switch. The whole set up should cost a hell of a lot less.

Fight4yourrights,
You have the right idea! For an even cheaper version start with the Surefire Nitrolen, about 45.00. Add a weaver ring and a M-3 adapter to the handgaurd. Since everybody has an extra ring around the total cost is about 65.00. For this you get a Surefire!!!! If you have green furniture on your Ar you can buy the green light for the same price. Looks cool.

Oh, and I have test fired this with the bulb lit (hot - weaker) for about 100 rounds.  Did fine w/the standard bulb.
