If pinning and welding a flash hider to a barrel lengthens it, could it be that pinning and welding the barrel extension to the other end also "lengthens" the barrel?  If this were the case a 14.5" barrel with both a standard A2 flash hider and the barrel extension permanently attached would measure over 16".  This would be way to easy of a solution to the M4gery barrel length problem.  How are barrels measured?  Has anyone tried this?  What does ATF have to say?

Minor nitpick:  The barrel extension encloses the closed bolt, so only that portion forward of the bolt face is included in the barrel length measurement.

I see.  So what is the most authentic looking m4gery barrel/flash hider combo? I have herd of a long flash hider from Kirk's Kustom, but I have never seen it. (I hope I'm right about the shop's name - I'm not sure) Does anyone have pictures of a long pre-ban flash hider that looks like an A2?

My personal opinion on the most authentic.  Take a 16" m4 barrel and cut to back
to where the standard A2 would make enough length to be 16".  The permanently
attach the standard A2 flash suppressor.  Don’t know the length off the top of my
head, about 15 to 15.5 inches.

This makes a nice compromise between the 14.5/phantom and 16/A2.

The Gem-Tech Bi-Loc is another alternative.

I did mine up with a Colt's standard A2 flash, a Smith Ent muzzle nut, a half inch or so spacer, welded and blind pinned on.  The spacer and nut give a length of over 16", and the extra nut gives something for a bayonet to sit on.  If you just did a spacer the bayo would slip past the flash hider and rattle around on the barrel.  The Smith Ent nut now looks like part of the flash hider.

Been awhile since I posted pics here.  Hope I remember how:

I Can't see the pictures you posted of your set up.  I don't know if its on your end or mine, but I'd really like to see them.  Please try again if you think the problems on your end.  Thanks.
