The local lumber yard is charging $11 for a 4x4x8 foot pressure treated.

The price for a nice 4x4x8 untreated douglas fir is $27.

I'm thinking that the douglas fir is overpriced.

what say ye?

Well yeah. But is there any reason why you shouldn't just get the pressure-treated in this case if it's cheaper?

Better wood at a cheaper price, why not?

Depends on purpose - if it's indoors go with the fir. If its outdoors, gotta be PT.

10 to 1 that pressure treated lumber is not doug-fir, it's hem-fir, heavy on the hemlock.

Pressure treated lumber is also not graded for appearance, unlike that stick of 4x4x8 doug-fir.
