a rusted up garand and some pineapple gernades , and abunch of other neat shit . and lets just say it was
behind your house where only you pig hunt or for that matter you have never seen anybody up in that area . what would you do ? remember this is just a what if .  688 boys and girls this is truely a WHAT IF YOU FOUND THIS post . there are no pictures , there will be no pictures nothing was found ! and it is fun to watch peoples minds wander . |

Put the grenades in a five gallon bucket. Get yourself a good metal detector. Sweep the area for other Garands, and other goodies. When you are satisified with your search, call the cops for grenade disposal. Pop a cold one and watch the bomb squad go to work.

Some duck tape, a looong string and a tree. See if them grenades still work.
Otherwise, I honestly wouldnt mess with old unexploded ordnance. Might be interesting to watch the bomb squad work. Or maybe, just get a big ass peice of Tannerite and tape the grenades to it. |

Even touching the grenades is idiotic. Mark em, police up the other goodies you want, then call the bomb squad. If you really have balls, see how many times you can shoot one with your AR before the grenade goes boom...from 100 yds away of course. |

They're still finding plenty of unexploded ordnance from WWI.
Nearly 100 years old and much of it is still deadly, and UNSTABLE as Hell. Even the bomb squad usually won't even touch old ordnance due to the risk, and they blow it in place. Go ahead, pick it up. Likely you'll soon be appearing in one of those Darwin Award postings. |

A couple times a year I go out into the desert training center where General Paton and six other armys practiced prior to going to North Africa. You can still see the tank tracks across the desert, the fighting positions are still plentiful, as are the spent .30-06, .45, and rations cans. Lots of barb wire and an occassional practice mine. I'm still waiting to find that dropped 1911A1, the M1 Garand, or even a Stewart light tank that rumor has got stuck in a gully somewhere.

i know a place that a national guard unit practiced at during the second war inmy "area" and its not uncommon tofind a crap load of rusted linked ammo laying around,but mainly in old streambeds that aredriedup. rumor has it, that the soldiers were told to go shoot a certain amount of ammo and they would shoot alittle and dump the rest, somewher out in the training area, which is now now is nolonger owned by the gov.

Been there, done that. Really.
Back when I was a Junior in High school, I lived in a little town called Hawthorne, Nevada. It is an Army Ammunitions Depot, formerly Naval test and development/ammunition depot. The Army used to do lots of exercises and the like in the desert surrounding the base and town, and the Navy used to test torpedos and the like in the lake close by. There were many signs in the desert, now no longer used by the military for exercises and such, saying that if you found ANYTHING, that you were to call the EOD guys. While I never found a Garand or any actual weapon like a gun, there were instances where old, rusted WWII grenades were found by the children of servicemembers or civilian government employees (what I was) and in one case, an entire crate was accidentally unearthed of live grenades. My buddies and I have found stuff, grenades, unexploded artillery shells, somthing that I swore was an old bazooka round, etc. We marked and went home to call EOD. Sometimes if we were feeling frisky, we would back off and try to shoot said item with our .22 rifles to get them to detonate. Fortunatly, we were never successfull. There are many things out in that desert. It can be a fun place and a very dangerous place if you are not careful. Chris |

I called the detroit police to come get some old morter rounds i found while cleaning out a storage locker. Call me a pussy but i didnt want to drive home with those in my car, we have huge pot holes
 So the bomb squad comes out and the guy gets all dressed up in his big suit, walks in there picks them up and put them in something that looks like a cement mixer.

in 1988 i was in basic training at ft knox. during our "miles" exercise my squad was assaulting a machingun emplacement. i dove for cover in a "pit" and felt something hard like a rock sticking into my chest.
It was a pineapple grenade. rusty pin boke and fell out when i landed on it and my stomach was holding the spoon in place. Drill sargents were yelling at me to move until i told them i was on top of a grenade. Eod was called and they got me out of the pit. the EOD guys told us it's not uncommon for those things to pop every so often as the age gets to them. DOn't know if it's true or not but i have no desire to test them out. They are explosives and OLD! don't fuck with them. |

back in the day it was a bit smaller  as for shitting my pants, it didn't really bother me until the guy in the blast suit looked nervous while he was digging it out. The last thing you want to hear in that situation is theEOD guy say... oh shit. |
