I think it could be a "late issue" pea coat? the buttons are large round type with ships' anchor

Yep, with no NSN (Natoinal Stock Number) it's probably phony.  How old is it?  All currently manufactured uniform items have NSN's where practical.  The "Issue: One" seems kindof stupid too.  My Peacoat has non of this crap.

ETA:  Mine, issued to me in 1998 has this for a label:

46L  (Size)
8405-01-154-5801  (NSN)

Also, the nylon/silk liner on mine does not have the X-stitching like the one in the picture, and the size label is wrong.  All Navy shirts and jackets have a chest size measurement with a length of Short, Medium, Long, or ExtraLong.

Either it's significantly older or newer than mine, or it's fake.

maybe it is "over-stock" from a govenment contracter and they sold these on the civillian market? that
could be why they're is no "nsn" number.

If it were Genuine GI, there should be a manufacturer identification as part of the label - not just "Source: Made in USA"

If it were real, that info would probably be in the "Contract number".

My GI Peacoat has no other labels except size and NSN.

I was issued one, but I'll be damned if I can remember what the label inside it looked like.

My dad uses it now for the occaisional cold spell in Ocala. Yes, it DOES get COLD in central Florida!

I just bought it yesterday for $79.98 at a large coat store in San Francisco, probably made recently?

It looks counterfeit.

notice the "Made in USA"

Is ANYTHING 'Made in USA' these days?

Isn't it 'Men's' not "Man's"

+1 on the need for a NSN number

Fake, if it was real it would have a National Stock Number (NSN), if it was old but post WWII is would have a Federal Stock Number (FSN), if it was old as crap it would have a manufactor date someplace.

Yeah, probably bullshit.  I see a lot of people wearing peacoats.  I guess they're getting trendy.  Which means one thing:  the Navy will change the uniform.

Tried to do a search and found a site wher guys are talking about the wool of the coat being too rough, and spending $1000.00 on a pea coat...

That's the same reason I'm glad I got free subs to Maxim and Stuff... mostly due to the "cool gear" sections. The idea of a guy paying $575 for a pair of fucking jeans makes me wanna go postal at a Starbucks...   If I spend $575 on something, it's gonna be a new hammer drill & coring bit.

But then I remember most of the guys buying those fashions are still living rent-free in Mom & Dad's basement, and have lots of free cash.

Nope, not real. Like stated, no NSN number. Also, all the peacoats I've seen aren't labeled as "L", but with the actual size (42L, 44S, 38R...etc). They also don't have "ISSUE" or "STYLE" lines.

the tag fooled me

I still like the coat, it looks authentic enough for me, plus it didnt cost much, the color is very dark it almost looks black but it is navy blue, it will make a nice winter coat.
