Hey, I usualy stick to the just watching and reading part of things here, but I have a question. Of the people here, how many were or are members of the BSA(Boy Scouts of America)? I am a member of their newest program, venturing. It is outdoors/survival based and I have found it extreamly useful for gaining practical survival skills. In fact this summer I will be working at our area's camp and they have ok'ed me to bring an AR and 870 for shotgun and rifle classes. Anyway I just thought I would ask. thanks for your time.
P.S If you are over 21 you can always be a schout leader.

I did it all from Cub Scouts to Explorers and I was never fingered or fondled.

I went from Cubs to Explorer, spent 3 summers at Scout camp in Massachsetts, then Jr. Asst Scoutmaster, Most helpful experience a younster can have to develop love of the outdoors, and respect for others. It breaks my heart to see all the politically correct crap that scouting has been hit with in recent years.

No, but wife was a Girl Scout, and is always prepared!

I was as a kid and enjoyed it a lot. We went camping, fishing, shooting. It was a a scout I learned the hard way that if you don't stake you tent well enough - it collapes at nite in the rain....

I started out in Tiger Cubs, worked my way thru Cubs where I was the most decorated in the history of the pack. Then I started Boy Scouts, where I made First Class before the Troop pretty much fell apart. All the leadership quit and went to Explorers, all at the same time.

I got my eagle when I was 15 and then quit when I was 16. It was a good experience the only real downside other than a congrats note from President Carter was a strong dislike for camping.

I made the rank of life scout (One away from Eagle) many years ago. Good orginization imo.

I have very fond memories of being a Boy Scout, I just wish there was a decent scouting program around here for my son to join.

Made it to life scout a number of years ago, then dropped out.
Just realized a tidbit of irony, though - my troop number was 223, based out of Hazel Green, AL.

Eagle Scout. the only downside was the note from Slick Willy. it made a nice target...

I was in cub scouts, boy scouts I am an Eagle scout with Order of the Arrow. I was in a troop that had more than 120 boys become Eagle scouts. Most of the boys that were in our troop have become successful leaders in our jobs and communities. It used to be that having the fact that you are an Eagle scout in a resume carried some weight. But now in this Politically-Correct world it much less important. That just proves to me that the Boy Scouts are correct. I am very proud of the BSA and their policies. Our summer camp still has a shooting range and Shooting merit badge.

Man, the memories. Memeber of Troop 27 BSA, George Washington Council, based at the Lawrence Road Presby Church in Lawrenceville, NJ.
Made it to Life Scout, and Brotherhood of the Arrow. Was about three merit badges and the project away from Eagle, but no way in hell would I have passed the Troop review board. Hell, my Life Scout review board lasted about two hours. What did it teach me. Do not administer the smackdown to anyone related to the scoutmaster, even if they try to beat the shit out of you in your own tent...
Honestly, though, I credit the Boy Scouts with teaching me much about life. It's where I learned to drink, smoke, curse, shoot, and admire the beauty of the female form (though, sneaking to the GS encampment was MUCH more fun than Penthouse....).

Eagle Scout and Brotherhood of the Arrow. Some of my best memories were formed at Scout Camp, and my parents wonder why I buy so many guns. [rolleyes]

Cub Scout for a short time. We didn't have enough money for my brother and I to continue though. I would have liked to continue to Boy Scouts.
