I love firearms obviously, I like being healthy in shape and to be honest I dont think I would mind going to the sandbox. obviously I cant speak from experience and thats why I want vets and current mil guys opinions. once I decide what im gonna do im not gonna half ass it and drop out or try to get out of it, I will either succeed in what I do or ill die trying to do it. this is a serious post so leave the bullshit out, I want facts and previous experiences opinions guys? dang the way that post started, I thought you were going to be on TV tonight held up with hostages at the offices of the Military Channel |

being serious.. I am in my mid 40's now and I look back at my time in the service very fondly.
I wouldn't trade it for anything and at the time, I didn't think it was anything special. Working in close proximity to nukes and one bad arse delivery system day to day was just a job for a fool 20 year old kid. It was one of the best things I ever did and of course, I got out before Clinton came into office  |

I moved out at 18 lived on my own a couple of years then Joined the Navy at 20 I loved it. I like the Navy, clean rack to sleep in, Good Chow, and get to see the world. |

fuck man, nobody says you got to stay in shitstain, ky. with your parents and try to find a job there. there is the rest of country you can go to for a job. my nephew graduated with a bachlor degree in mathamatics, from ohio university, jobs for teachers in NE ohio pay low, so he found a job in nothern Va. with a teaching position in HS for a starting salary of 45K a year. and they are paying a good portion of his tuition for his masters degree.

You'll get a lot of responsibility and technical knowledge in your field. You can get promoted quickly and have a great career if you keep your nose clean. HOWEVER, you will be fucking BURIED in regulations, AF publications, local procedures, forms, and SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY! I personally didn't want a career that slowly became more and more desk-oriented. It all depends on your AFSC, though. I was a 2A373A, an F-15C/D/E crew chief. One thing I didn't like, oddly enough, was the utter lack of discipline in the ranks. There was a lot of behavior that in other services would result in reduction in rank and pay. It's actually pretty hard to lose a stripe in the USAF. Basic was a walk in the park. All academics, and some calisthenics. Get used to running a lot and doing lots of situps. Field training was a joke. We played fucking flashlight tag. This was 10 years ago, and I really hope it's improved since then. I loved my time in, and would go back if I had the opportunity, but there were some definite times where I just scratched my head at the way things were done. My advice if you go USAF is to get an aircrew job, something that travels a lot. See the world, meet people from other countries and laugh at their dirty, broken jets. Finish your degree when you can and get a commission if you want to go career. Most importantly, SAVE YOUR MONEY. Don't drink your paycheck, and don't nail any chicks that live in the trailer parks outside the base. They see you as a meal ticket outta Podunk, USA. |

The basic principle of what is being shown is true. There are exceptions to the rule but in general Air Force standards of living are higher. Dad did 26 years in the Army. When I told him I was going to join the Army, he made sure he drove me to the recruiter. When we got there, he made damned sure I went in the Air Force door. I am grateful for him doing that for me. YMMV.

I was on base about a week ago talking with some gentlemen who informed me that the USMC is pretty 'full' on officers atm, something like a 120% capacity.
They advised my friend that the best way to get in right now is to have a near 300pft, the higher the better. Just what I was told, might have to take it with a grain of salt.

I'm an Army recruiter, and I recently had an Air Force officer come to my office to see about transferring over to the Army. USAF and USN are both restructuring right now. Might be tough just getting in.

Go Navy. Hell...go anything. No person worth a shit has ever not benefitted from the military...unless, of course, you get injured or killed in combat, die in a shipboard fire or plane crash, etc....but hey....where was I....oh yea.
I enlisted in the Navy at the age of 25 and stayed for 10 years. It was the best thing I ever did, and it changed my life. |

You could also go half-way and become a Reservist or National Guardsman.
With a bachelor's degree, you can see about earning a commission as well. You have plenty of options. |

I did we had a kid in boot camp who scored a 19, I was like WTF, the Company commander told for every guy like me than can put in a guy like him I guess they needed paint chippers. |

Don't decide anything out of anger. If I were to join again I would choose the Airforce or Navy to get a better job that would transition me to a civi job. I was in the Marines, Infantry so theres not a lot of job options out there for me. A buddy of mine did 4 years in the navy, got out then went right into a 65k a year job.

Just from reading your post you sound pretty pissed and from experience when you're pissed that isn't the best time to make life changing decisions. If you truly want to be in the military then go for it. My dad did 20 in the navy and I have plenty of relatives that served as well and I think very highly of all of them. That being said if that is the only way you can see to escape your current situation you're probably wrong. Try to think with a level head and best of luck in what you do.
