918 songs = a lot of money.

[/sarcasm]

I filled my my 512mb mp3 player pretty fast.  Is 918 the max amount of songs 20g will hold or is that just how many you put on there?

Get the monster cable FM tuner instead, much better.

It looks like Monster unit constantly keeps the battery charging and only has 8 frequencies to choose from. While keeping the thing charged is good, constantly charging = reduced battery life. It's also twice the price of the Griffin.

What makes it better, in your opinion?

If you go with the FM transmitter, Monster has two: The 8 station model you saw and one that doesn't have presets, you can pick from any spot on the dial that doesn't have a station on it by you. I got that one for my wife and she loves it.

I use the Monster cassette tape adaptor for my truck's tape/CD player. If you have the tape player and like better sound, this is what I would recommend. The FM transmitter is a nice all in one solution but you still get way more pops and background hiss than the tape adaptor.

Welcome to iPod-dom. I have the 20Gb model myself and love it. I have something like 8 days of continuous listening on it and there are still 5Gb left!

I wouldnt worry about the constantly charging part - I have been using mine for almost two years, and it still has the same battery time as the day I bought it.  That is really the only way I use my ipod anymore, is in the car with my monster cable FM tuner.

You wont need any more than 8 frequencies.  The charging part is exactly why I think it is better, not to mention the build quality is going to be better, being from monster cable.

I have 941 songs in a 4 gig IPOD mini, and it's not full yet.  (3.61 gb)

Belkin TuneCast II is the way to go, digital tuning to any frequency in the FM spectrum, costs like $30 at Amazon (the original TuneCast costs $20 but only has limited frequencies, make sure its a II you're getting).  Its available in IPod white&grey if you're into that.

Just FYI I didn't think so either. But when I got mine I got static and bleed-through from other stations on every one of the 8 presets. Maybe my FM market is saturated or something... YMMV. I took the one I originally had (before the tape adaptor) back.

Well, to be fair, I do live in an area where there is only 4 FM radio stations that we can pick up.  Not saturated here at all.

There's large stretches of the Eastern seaboard where you're hard-pressed to find an open freq.  I'm in an area so densely populated I had to search for the weakest station (some opera station) and just blast over it.

One tip for using these thingies: Turn the volume on your Mp3 player all the way up, that way you can turn down the car stereo, which eliminates most of the static and any other radio stations that might be bleeding through.

In my experience, the FM transmitters suck donkey balls.  Now, if you are Fancy, like me, and have XM radio in your car and have it wired directly to your FM antenna, you can unplug the lead from your xm docking station and plug it right into your I Pod.

Rock On.

+1

Though if you really want to use it in your car there are newer and better (although more expensive) options available.

Belkin AA battery adaptor for when deployed.

And don't forget it is an actual drive. You can store pics (.jpgs, etc.) and shit like that on an ipod.
