All the more reason to buy it.

Certainly this makes more sense then that "Ipod Shuffle" horseshit.

Anyone have one of the Nano's yet?
Link Posted: 9/15/2005 6:41:58 AM EDT
a buddy of mine has one...loves it.

<BR>

personall, I'd rather drop the money on ammo

Funny, there are just about as many iPod haters as there are Glock haters.

The thing's very slick, and another home-run for Apple.

I'd rather have larger capacity (40-60 GB), but this one beats the mini-iPod by light years.

Means you should be able to find some used iPod mini's cheap soon. I can't see a single reason to get rid of mine for a nano.

I have one - very cool.
Link Posted: 9/15/2005 6:47:27 AM EDT
It's on my list of purchases.. however.. that list rarely gets to be visited.
Link Posted: 9/15/2005 6:48:27 AM EDT
I work at best buy and bought 4 of them the first day they came out. I sold them on Ebay but it didnt pan out and I returned 3 of them and sold 1. Pretty cool stuff and better than the shuffle. $200 will get alot of buyers interested and $250 for a 4gb aint bad either. I just wouldnt use it though

I got a black 4gb one on the first day. Listening to it at my desk right now.

I agree that it has much more appeal than the Shuffle or the mini for that matter.

My step-mother picked one up. It's her first iPod and she loves it. We would get a nano if we did not already have a mini.

ETA: I think it's interesting how Apple used the hype over the release of the ROKR iTunes phone to decoy the media. It was very obvious that the real star of the announcement was the nano. Rather clever actually.

I think I need one. Who has them available?
Link Posted: 9/15/2005 7:11:59 AM EDT

I'm gonna wait.......

I hear in early '06 Apple is releasing the IPOD MACRO

Rumor has it that it'll have a 100Gig capacity!

I do! PayPal me $100 at "hepcatIpodScam@yahoo.com.

Seriously though, I'd try BestBuy. I'd guess that the price is pretty much fixed wherever you go, right? Anyone have info on that?

PCMall is running a deal on the iPod Nanos. Here's a link to the 2 GB black iPod Nano which is going for $194 plus a free FM transmitter and free shipping. They also have similar deals on the 4 GB and white models. I chose black because this site is so tactical.

I still wouldn't buy any iPod (due to the factors mentioned in the other mp3 thread -- the nano still has the battery defect) but there you have it!

Thanks for the info and tip.

What's the skinny on the battery? What kind of run time are we talking?

Well, the battery is listed at 14 hours. Then again, no mp3 maker gives you an accurate view of how long the battery runs. Touch any control (and activate the backlight) and the power starts draining. I'd say 10-12 hours as a more realistic estimate.

From what I've read, the battery is still not hot swappable. The aftermarket came up with the Belkin battery pack to remedy the defect on current iPods but it is not clear whether the Belkin unit is compatible with the new Nano. You will note that the Belkin pack is not compatible with the iPod Mini so there's no telling if it's compatible with the Nano.

Also, the battery is currently not user-replaceable either. Again, I suspect the aftermarket will need some time to make up for the iPod Nano's deficiency. They have already done so with the existing iPods (check out this website.

Give them some time, the aftermarket will produce solutions to the iPod's problems. The only downside is that you'll have to pay extra for them ($50 for the Belkin pack, $30 for a new user-replaceable battery).

Not enough storage for me, but they are very durable.

Ars Technica beat the hell out of theirs and it kept on running:

I wish Apple would design a cell phone.

It'd be AWESOME!

How is the software for the iPods?

Does it prohibit copyright materials?

Not sure if you are being sarcastic, but they already did.

Looks more like Motorola's phone with Apple software...

How about size, weight, durability and battery life?
Link Posted: 9/15/2005 9:31:40 AM EDT
It looks like I could snap it in half. I know it does well in drop tests, but I'd hate to see what would happen if I sat my fat ass down with it in my back pocket. Could I sue Apple to pay for removing the shrapnel?

Here's the best review I've seen on it. Ars Technia tests it to destruction (including running it over with a car, where it still played music).

arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/nano.ars

Seems to be a very good product.

There is an interesting rumor (stress RUMOR) that Apple has a cell phone design of it's own in the works and that the ROKR is simply to buy it some time to complete development.
