Not enough. It continually amazes me that there are 80+ million gun owners in America and less than 10% belong to the NRA. I am a life/benefactor member. I know that they don't always, at least in the past, support everything we here believe in, but they do some good and are a large voice.

I believe there is about 3 million. It varies because not all yearly members renew every year. It goes up when an oppressive gun bill passes and goes down when a pro-gun bill passes. But the problem by the time anti-gun legislation affects you personally, it is too late to do anything about it. It is is continuouly fight by the NRA against the Million Mom Marchers & the Sarah Brady camps.
Me, I'm a life member.

Membership was at 4.2 million in 2000 during the run up to elections. NRA hasn't revised that number yet but they have had several 5 million membership goal drives - so I am guessing they are still within striking range of 5 million.

Not so fun factoid: Based on that membership number, the NRA PAC in 2000 was able to gather a whopping $0.38 per member for promoting pro-Second Amendment candidates in the election.... and people wonder why NRA doesn't do more.

By the way, GOA with its more passionate, no-compromise membership of 300,000 collected a whopping $0.57 per member for their PAC in 2000.

And they say gun owners are cheap...
