Just like the thread title says.

A new AK at-the-ready beats a 7.62x39 upper in the safe

If not, then please explain yer answer

ps - no option for "pie" because it's way overused..!

Does 5.45 x39 count?
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 9:35:24 AM EST
You mean that there are people that don't have both an AR and an AK?
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 9:37:52 AM EST
I only have an AR.

Nothing against AKs. Just don't want to have to stock up on yet another caliber ammo.
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 9:38:23 AM EST
Technically have both, AK and an unfinished AR lower but only the AK is operational.

Need to work on that
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 9:39:23 AM EST
AR only. But I will have both.
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 9:39:33 AM EST
I have both. *

* Only until the krink transfer is complete.

The Russians designed the AK to be able to shoot M16 ammo but AK rounds are too big to fit in an M16 on purpose so we couldn't use their ammo.

ditto, plus I don't like the ergonomics of the AK
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 9:41:00 AM EST
I have had both. Though sadly I lost both in a tragic boating accident.
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 9:42:38 AM EST
I USED to have an AK, but I sold it to get parts for my AR
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 9:42:54 AM EST
AR only at this time.

Have looked at AKs. Local fun store has a Romanian AK for $300 something.

Wish I hadn't had to buy a camera for a class. I would either have a Uberti SAA, an AK, or a PX4 by now.
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 9:43:23 AM EST
ARs only.

Just not a huge fan of the AK and I have other guns I want to buy first.
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 9:45:24 AM EST
Like what was previously mentioned, I HAD both. However, they were on the boat when it went down.

I own a romAK and buildng an AR froma bushy lower and a vulcan upper
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 9:47:11 AM EST
Just a WASR, but it goes bang everytime.

Also, I think an SKS should be in the mix as well.

Link Posted: 9/19/2009 9:49:07 AM EST
Ive owned a few AK's over the years, they suck compared to an AR.

I have never owned weapon calibers popular with the Warsaw Pact.

I've got a hell of lot more hardware in 9x18, 7.62x54r, and 7.62x39 than I do in NATO calibers

Polish Tantal, ChiCom AK, Colt SP1 carbine and a Bushy/Stag rifle. Two of each type.

Link Posted: 9/19/2009 9:51:57 AM EST
Only have an AR.
I've just never had a desire to own an AK.
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 9:53:51 AM EST

I bought my RRA AR

I inherited the SAR3 from my late uncle.

Not the best pic, but it will do for now.

Figured I would also add in real Russian vodka.

Use to own both

Now I have AKs, RPKs, and an RPD

The AR was never as fun shooting at the range. If I'm going for precise shots, rather go with a larger caliber
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 9:55:01 AM EST
Of the 2 i only have AR's .AK's are the weapon of the enemy and i hate plywood furniture .

Yes. Technically I have multiples.

Here's two of them:

Don't try and tell me you can't buy guns on a college student's budget...it's just a matter of priorities. I could have a lot of other "cool" stuff, but then I wouldn't have guns. I think I made the right choice...that being said I'll be happy once I get a career and a regular paycheck. I'll probably go on a crazy buying spree then.

Oh, and for those who scoff at AKs...they still get the job (yes, even 7.62x39 AKs with open sights):

AR at the same distance with domestic brass case .223:

Link Posted: 9/19/2009 10:13:17 AM EST
The ARs are my go to guns if I have an idea what I'm getting into. IE: Civil unrest, break in, varmint etc.

The AK's are my WTF SHTF guns. I know that if all I have time to grab is a rifle and ammo then I can improvise the rest. IE: Boot laces, motor oil and a rag.

I have an MGI modular AR that gets more and more modified. So far it sports SBR papers, I have replaced the stock upper receiver with the MUR with a FAL side charging handle and the MGI quick change barrel system installed. I have my choice of 5.56, 7.62x39 both on native mags, 22LR, 6.8 SPC and have gas op 45acp on the way. SpecterDR optic and Troy BUIS. PRS and CTR stocks.

The MGI can't be beat for modularity. If I grab it and the kit I know I have the most common .mil calibers covered.

I also have an AR10-T with twin 308 and 300 RSAUM uppers 24" Larue 13.5" rails Lupy MK4 4.5x14 TMR with matched ballistik knobs.

If I need to reach out and touch someone I grab this system.

I have SBR Krinks in 5.45 and 7.62x39 and 12ga (Converted 8" shorty Saiga), a polish Tantal, Galil, 2 more Saiga 12's one is stock unfired the other is a bullpup and one Saiga 308.

The Krinks can't be beat for Vehicle and CQB work. With the stocks folded they are still shorter than the MGI with the stock collapsed and a 7" barrel installed. Besides I have my choice of 5.45, 7.62 or even 12 ga with a 20 round drum if I really need close range blasting power.

The Tantal, and Galil are just different takes on the AK.

The converted Saiga 308 is my no frills MBR. Same weight and function as a standard AK but with 25 round 308 mags.

The stock Saiga 12 is an investment/before conversion sample.

The Pupped Saiga 12 is the gun I test all my Saiga conversions on, it just happens to be in a nearly finalized pup config right now.

I have both and the AK gets fired more often and cleaned less.

see sigline for details.
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 10:21:37 AM EST
I had both, the AK from global arms deconstructed in my hands from shitty workmanship and inept management
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 10:22:24 AM EST
11 AKs and 5 ARs here.
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 10:23:27 AM EST
Guns are icky.
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 10:25:16 AM EST
Had both. Had to sell the AK for some extra cash about a year ago.
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 10:29:09 AM EST
Haven't shot the AK yet. Looking forward to it. I love my ARs, and the AKs will never replace them.
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 10:31:40 AM EST
Had both but consolidated on the AR. Nothing particularly against the AK, just that I had more invested in AR's.

There are, but they are not acknowledged socially.

I "got both" in the early 90's.

I really like 5.56, 5.45 and 7.62 (X39)
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 10:40:26 AM EST

Actually researching and shopping for my first AK at the moment.
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 10:41:49 AM EST
4 AK's, 2 in 5.56, and the other 2 in 7.62x39. I used to have an AR a long time ago, I was not happy with it, and I sold it to fund an AK that I also later sold.
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 10:42:35 AM EST
I Have had an AK and a CAR15 since 1970
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 10:43:31 AM EST

I had a WASR and a Bushmaster XM-15E2S (post sunset, M4 style). But now they're at the bottom of a very deep lake. I regret not checking the seaworthiness of that damned boat before I went out.
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 10:43:47 AM EST
I used to own an AK, but I sold it recently because I thought about mag compatability, and I just wanted to buy stuff for one type of gun.
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 10:49:49 AM EST
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 10:52:22 AM EST

Few ARs and 1 AK.

I always said I never wanted an AK, except for a SBR M92. Which is what I have now.
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 10:57:57 AM EST
Only having one or the other means you are not doing your job in pissing off the liberals who hate us and our shoulder things that go up

Link Posted: 9/19/2009 10:58:07 AM EST
I have four of each.

Can I vote four times?
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 10:58:43 AM EST
I have several of each. :)
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 11:00:41 AM EST
Several of each, in fact.
