i've read somewhere that it's mo-seen nahg-an and that the t at the end is silent.


i pronounce carbine so is rhymes with combine. i used to pronounce it care-a-bean but i know that's not right

Correct. Mosin was a Russian, Nagant was a Belgian IIRC, hence the silent "t"

"Moh-ZEEN na-GAHWN" is probably better as a pronunciation guide.
