My dad is the cranky old man at the transmission shop that has seen it all and should have retired 10 years ago.  Every once in a while he sends me an entertaining photo.  This one was, "The fluid looked like what's left over after a self cleaning oven is done."

That's kind of impressive.

He said it's a manual transmission from an early 2000s Mustang.  Said it had a bearing welded to the case from getting so hot.

He said that even the case couldn't be saved because it had a bearing welded in it.

Not a Mustang guy, but didn't most of them use T5s?  T5s are a dime a dozen, swap a good used one in and Bob's your auntie.

I see shit like that daily, so nothing is new to me. The things that shock me are the ridiculous ways people modify their cars while continuing to drive them.

These are two examples of the shit that I see often that don't  phase me:

These are some of the modded cars I see that make me question how these people are still alive.

The hood on this Honda doesn't close at all and even the wind will fling it open while it's parked, but hey, at least the turn signals work.

The truck passes safety every year with an extra $50 and a safety inspector who doesn't care, I do the emissions test and it passes on it's own. IDK about the Honda, that guy came in for a valve cover gasket.

That is one of those "how the fuck did you break that" type deals.

A former buddy of mine broke a Currie 9in center section on a 10.5 tire car, on the street. It hooked up when he didn't expect it to and bang.

Looks like the roll pin that holds in the cross pin came out then hung on the housing. Combine all that happening at speed in a truck weighing a few thousand pounds and thing break in big ways.

My first job was in automotive testing, and that's still impressive. Did they tell him with any specificity how they managed to fuck that up to that degree?
