Never heard of paying extra for a performance fee. You pay the same rates depending on what types of products you buy.

Is this an annuity product? You may want to look at the surrender schedule and why they are capping your gains.

I've worked in the industry and performance fees are very uncommon outside of hedge funds. If your a qualified investor then arfcom is not going to help you vet investments.
