My ass would not be going ANYWHERE near a downed elephant until I was 100% sure it was dead.
I love the people that say to stop elephant hunting, at least on safari its using sporting arms. The game wardens/poachers (usually one and the same) use RPGs on them instead.

Graphic my ass.

I think it is an awesome vid. I bet the shooters heart was beating 1000X a min.

I think John said that was a client using a .470 Nitro. That is what happens when the Brain shot goes as planned.

Not as bad as you think, the rifle weighs 14 lbs so you get a long slow shove rather than a sharp violent jolt. It kicks and recoil is rather noticable, but it is not unmanagable.
Link Posted: 9/11/2005 5:35:30 PM EDT
Boy, talk about dropping like a rock. Guess thats what happens with you disrupt the central nervous system...

Didn't think that was graphic at all...

I guarentee you there was nothing left except a wet spot in the sand.

Read this months Sports Afield article covering 10000 lbs of protein recovery.

And yes, an elephant has tasty parts.
Link Posted: 9/11/2005 5:50:52 PM EDT
That poor defenseless elephant. Did you see its sad puppy dog eyes?
"Please dont shoot me. I have a family. Dont kill me, I want to live"
And then its life was tragically ended. Its so sad. One of Mother Natures beautiful creatures was taken from the Earth. Gia cries alone tonight.

Goddamn I wanna go on safari. Preferably for big cats though.

Elephants don't need a car wash... they got built in hoses. All they need's a pond.

real sporting that took a lot of effort to hunt and kill.

The only real point is to say "I killed a elephant"

and before you think I should get hit with a beer can

when I varmint shoot or general blasting, any kill is a good kill, Im in even stray dog in NO

Ok that was cold

As an avid hunter I see no reason at all to kill an elephant.

Just bragging rights for rich little boys.
Link Posted: 9/12/2005 9:24:21 PM EDT
Perfect shot. And fucking awesome.

Why kill an elephant? Essential part of game management. If not for the elephant hunters, there would be no elephants left.
Link Posted: 9/12/2005 9:26:46 PM EDT
Does not beat the lion hunt where the lion attacks the hunters video.

That's funny. I could have sworn the African elephant was on the "threatened species" list.

ETA - Because of poachers, a form of "hunter"

Poachers aren't hunters. Perhaps you should bone up on your terminology.

Do some research on how the countries of Africa afford to manage the elephant. If it weren't for the 'rich boys', there would be no elephants at all in Africa.

WTF are you talking about? Do you have any links to back up this chicken scratch? Look in my post above and see the list of threatened species. African elephant is on it.

Poachers aren't a form of hunter huh:

Main Entry: hunt·er
Pronunciation: 'h&n-t&r
Function: noun
1 a : a person who hunts game b : a dog used or trained for hunting c : a horse used or adapted for use in hunting with hounds; especially : a fast strong horse trained for cross-country work and jumping
2 : one that searches for something
3 : a pocket watch with a hinged protective cover

Main Entry: 1poach·er
Pronunciation: 'pO-ch&r
Function: noun
Etymology: 2poach
1 : one that trespasses or steals
2 : one who kills or takes wild animals (as game or fish) illegally

Again - "Because of poachers, a form of "hunter""

You seem to know your shit Burley.

Did they have back-up assault rifles just in case the elephant decides to charge the guy hit the ears instead of the head?

Just watched the Hippo vid.

Lovely.

What bravery, the fucking animal is in the middle of a river when it's shot. Guess they have no intention of using the animal, just blowing a hole in it and letting it rot in the river.

Riiiiiight.....game management.
Link Posted: 9/13/2005 5:01:46 AM EDT
I, too, am an avid hunter but I can't imagine killing an elephant. I don't see the sport in it.

i dont understand tropy hunters.. if im shooting something, its because im going to eat it, or its a varmit..

its like the whole "big racked deer", who cars... i just want it to be big enough to fill my freazer
Link Posted: 9/13/2005 7:27:05 AM EDT
Wow, that thing sure went down quick. I really don't see the point, its kinda like huunting a barn. Ya just can't miss. Can you eat elephant? But it was a cool video.
Link Posted: 9/13/2005 7:59:25 AM EDT
Why do you girls feel the need to post your sandy mangina comments?

I NEVER kill for sport, only for occasional snacks, target practice and just because 'it' needed killing.

I don't buy your dorky 'in order for it to be worthwhile, it has to be for sport' BS arguement. I bet that elephant fed a LOT of people, and raised a LOT of money for habitat restoration.

Good video. Good kill, and I wish I would get the chance to do that!

Couldn't agree more.
Couldn't even make it a clean one shot kill.
