That's cool in Ohio. We have 100+ days with very high humidity. I'm telling you it's next level hot. Imagine paving every square inch of GA.

Yeah, city heat in Japan is hard to quantify. Temp/humidity is a lot of it. But I think it comes down to every surface around you being reinforced concrete or asphalt - which soaks up all the heat and pumps it back at you as you make your way to and from wherever you are going. It's like how the best pizza ovens are made of brick and/or stone to maintain a heat mass that a plain convection oven cannot replicate.

Dude, I have been so sick all I'd have a pics of are Egg mcmuffins, a few danish, hundreds bottles of water and a large pile of Tylenol. That shit literally saved my life

I don't want to be the wet blanket that goes to Japan and whines about having a bad time -I didn't, but I am very disappointed in the tourist aspect of my trip. I met my college send-off objectives for my kid but the fun stuff was a bust.

Even now I am scared of how bad I am feeling. I am dizzy AF and low on lung capacity.

I was sick with something last week that put me in the hospital overnight with wheezing and shortness of breath. Picked it up in Marysville (assuming your trip began in Ohio.) It was rough.

Don’t mess around if you’re having trouble breathing. Plus, if you go to a Japanese hospital you’ll get to verify if Japanese nurses are as hot as my imagination right now is telling me they are.

Left my kid in Nagoya and headed back to Tokyo.  Reportedly a monsoon there but Tokyo station live cam looks ok.  About an hour out so let’s upload a few pics…

I spent a lot of time watching Nagoya station livestream and google street view to see what my kids town would be like.  It was awesome to see it in person.

Last day today. Gotta be at Haneda at 1pm. It's 6 now.

Yesterday I decided to hit Shimokitazawa, a area with clubs, recording studios, vintage clothing, vinyl record shops and lots of small places to eat

Cool area. Old ladies selling jewelry, a little festival for little kids, lots of students carrying instruments. Low on tourists. I could tell it was a vibrant community. The good kind.

Took a long walk around Gotanda station and hit the cheap steak chain. It was tough but good and $20 with 2 beers.

Finally got some ramen and gyoza. What sucks is that junk food seems ok on my stomach. Anything like real food puts me down for an hour.  Tylenol is literally saving me.

Define "hot" please? Your state isn't listed so I'm just asking for reference.

ETA: Just checked the weather. Upper 80's with 86% humidity. Basically a cool early September day in Georgia.

Lol, ^^ this GA guy has no idea. Was in Tokyo two months ago and damn near got heat stroke. Temp was 96-98 with feels like of 107-110.

I live in FL.  It’s humid AF. But you’ve never felt heat like this with all the concrete everywhere. I was in Vegas a couple weeks ago. It was 110. It was nothing compared to Japan. Had to come back to FL just to “cool off”. I’d never go back to Japan during July/Aug.  We are thinking March next time round.

I really should post up a trip thread from our July trip. I was inspired by the @ToledoXJ and @Beatsoff8daysStraight Japan threads to finally book it and go. Definitely was a top 3 vacation of a lifetime, and I’ve been a lot of places overseas.

Oh yeah, and LOL to the guy @Joe_sun who’s going to Tokyo for his first overseas trip. Talk about impending culture shock. There’s easing into overseas travel (ie. Canada or the UK). Then there is slamming it down your throat. That’s Asia Good luck

I’m here now and aside from the massive jet lag and the rain it’s been great. I speak a little Japanese from College and so far so good. I will say that I need to start watching what I eat, not for weight gain but my body isn’t used to currypan for breakfast and ramen for lunch.

The weather thou, how can it be raining and so hot at the same time. And you’re right, when the sun comes out you’ll get these blasts of heat off the road and buildings.

Jelly,
I regret getting sick there as i missed out on food and vacation type stuff. Probably a good thing Ronin76 and I didn't meet up. Must have done a good job getting my kid settled. His texts and facetime seem like he is fitting in well and making friends. They all seem to be Thai, Korean, French instead of Japanese though. Keeps sending me sweet car pics

One of the reason's I got so interested in Japan is related to a friend who is super into 5th gen Honda Accords. He is FB friends with a couple guys that live in Japan with modified Accords. I occasionally chat with them about car shows and their projects.

Last night my FB "pen pal" Kazuhiro posted there would be a 35th anniversary meet in Aichi of Accords. I sent the post to my kid so he hopped on a train and went to see the cars this morning.

The white wagon is a real Si R and is pushing 500HP.

If memory serves, folks in Japan who own what we would consider medium-sized cars (Accords, etc.) are pretty fucking rich.  Taxes, parking, insurance and such are all pricey there.  That's why there are so many motorcycles and small cars with weird names like the "Honda Today."

Dunno. Lots of Toyota Crowns and they are giant.

Now modified cars? Yeah they are rich or have bad priorities like me. You have to tear them apart and return to stock for inspections every couple years. That is why almost everyone has new cars there
