wow nice pics. Some of those funnels were fricken huge. I have never seen a tornado and am fascinated by them. I bet it would be a different story if I dealt with them every year though. Could you post a caption by the pics though so I could understand what I am looking at a bit more.

If I saw one of those giant funnel clouds touch down anywhere within my visible horizon I'd probably freeze up and piss myself.

You nutcases guys who live in the tornado belt apparently have brass balls. I'll take an ice storm, a nor easter, or a friggin' tsunami any day of the week over a tornado. If I lived in a place where a storm cellar was necessary for survival mine would be deep enough to freaking strike oil.

Okay I forwarded these pics to a friend of mine (Ryan Towell, AMS certified) that was the weatherguy on the local TV station and here is his reply.

I've seen these pics emailed around several times.  Earlier claims were that they were taken during Hurricane Ivan and then again this year during Hurricane Katrina.  Not so.  They are from a supercell(s)...probably in the Plains.  That's all for weather school today...

How the hell is everyone??

In the next to the last picture there is a "face" in the center bottom of the cloud. I didn't see it but when I showed the pictures to my daughter and that was the first thing she saw in that picture. Very cool.

If I saw anything that remotely resembled one of those pictures, you'd be able to find me in the nearest church... with soiled undergarments.

Always Snopes it unless it's a political thing .

ndeed, these pictures are apparently all-purpose storm photos, trotted out on a near monthly basis and retitled to correspond to the latest large weather phenomenon.

She's under the couch right now!

Amazing pics.  thanks

FYI, only one of those pictures were of a tornado.  The rest were mesocyclones, which are not known to cause any damage.  Occasionally a tornado will pop out of one, but usually not.  They are merely large circulating updrafts which feed the cloud.

Very eerie.  A friend of mine sent me the exact same photos - I do mean the exact same ones.

She is the photographer's mother, and he works on an oil rig.  If this sounds like him, let me know.
