I was listening to talk radio while driving yesterday and they were talking about level three sex offenders being released from jail after serving their sentence.
They were being picked up immediately and held for a "civil commitment hearing"

Apparently some states/towns want these scumbags held forever even though they finished their sentence.
They want to hold them forever on the assumption they will commit crimes in the future.
Thats pretty much a given being that sex offenders are rarely if ever rehabilitated or "cured"
The most heinous are the child molesters.

I would be in favor of jailing the scumbags for life or lethal injection, fuck em they are not human
and are monsters who deserve no mercy, PERIOD!

Here's my conundrum:
I don't want the genie out of the bottle on this kind of back door justice even if it achieves a good out come.
The civil commitments can be used in other scenarios and could effect us all down the road.
Like I said I have no sympathy for child molesters and I really believe they should all be put to deatrh but this kind of legalese is dangerous to us all.

Generally speaking, child molesters ain't wired right in the Brain Housing Group.  They will offend again.  They aren't the type who can say "well, I tried fingering a 5yo boy's ass, and got 10 years in the slammer for it, I ain't gonna do that again."  Punishment does not deter because they are hardwired upstairs to do it again.

Makes me sad for them, but they are a threat.  We gotta come up with something better than releasing them back into the community to prey again.

I agree, If it were my child and they caught him I'd bail him out and take care of it western style.
