What is the best way to detect keystroke logging software and/or hardware that has been installed on your machine?

Check your running processes.

A good logger will not show up in your task manager. A hardware logger will probably be plugged inline to your keyboard cable.

Wasn't this the one that was in Maximum PC last month or so?

You need software… SpyCop. Hardware can be hard to detect or even undetectable for that you need the MKI Eyeball.
