I thought it was very well done, accepting that I am no historical
encyclopedia with regards to ancient history. Some Hollywood
embellishment was evident but it did not take away from the story, in my
opinion.

The underlying tone of the film was excellent. Courage, honor, love,
sacrifice, sadness, fear, euphoria, aggression....it had all the elements
you would desire in such a film.

The acting and casting? I think Pitt did a pretty good job of making
Achilles seem larger-than-life in his skill and confidance. Too many
"stud shots", perhaps. Eric Bana (Hoot from Blackhawk Down) made a
first-rate Hector. Brian Cox (the police captain from Super Troopers)
made an outstanding Agamemnon. I thought Orlando Bloom (the elf from
LOTR) overdid some of his scenes as Paris, but not too badly.

I rate it very close to Gladiator: 8.75/10

I agree completely, but would rate it more at a 7-7.5.

Incidentally, Eric Bana (hoot) is allegedly a rabidly anti-gun bastard. Reason enough for me not to see it. Petty, I know, but I don't give a crap.

Eric Bana is anti? Dang, I thought his part as "Hoot" in BHD was awesome.
