I have a 2000 Mustang v6 auto transmission.

It won't go over 60. As you accelerate it stops at 60. increase throttle the rpms go up but no more speed.

If you let off the gas and get back on it, it still slows down 10-15 MPH until it kicks in again.

I was having the same problem at 30, topped off the fluid and now its only at the higher speeds.

Do I take it to the mechanic or the Transmission shop?

There are no warning lights on.

Sounds like a transmission issue.

Any noises or shakes? Does rate of acceleration matter? Hit anything lately?

Go to the tranny shop..it sounds like its got at least one clutch pack slipping....you are gonna get a tranny o-haul would be my guess...

I would never buy me a v6 mustang. It is driven by my daughter. 75000 miles

No accidents that I am aware of. No unusual noises

Limp mode. Disconnect the battery for a good 10 minutes.

definitely sounds like an internal trans issue causing it to miss/slip a shift....on the bright side it might be a good time to do an LS

Yea same trans as the explorer. Get a reamn from the ford dealer or junk the car. The 555 trans blow and are expensive as shit. The servo bore bushings are like 65 bucks each. When they get to have symptoms like that they are done.

We use to find the drums welded together or broke. Center supports broken. Then of course servo bores.
